I like them because they were built to be assembled easily and they are sturdy when finished. Many Revell kits were over-engineered and the suspensions, while well detailed, were flimsy and spindly. The old Monogram stuff was excellent for their target audience at the time (kids!) and thus, they go together well for those getting back into the hobby, or with not-as-advanced skills.... they really are great models.
I like modifying them all. The limit is your imagination. As for fun box stock builds, I had a blast building the Vandal, the Bad Medicine, and the T'rantula.. I have fond memories of the last two as a kid...

Yeah, I opened up a T'Rantula today, decided the parts count wasn't high enough, so I started cutting into more pieces.

All the TD kits are pretty easy assembly, this should allow you to focus on the paintwork.
My advice would be to build the kit that best appeals to you. Look for the one that looks the coolest in your eyes......of course they all look cool to me.....

Iced-T is a cool one. All kinds of possibilities. We've seen some really cool builds based on the Stinger around here, too.

LOL..My brother bought me an Iced-T once for my birthday. He thought it was cool looking and that I would enjoy building it. So I get it home and am tinkering with my stuff, and I open the box and am looking through the kit, and I swear, not five minutes later I had the body cut in half. Later he asks me if I had a chance to build the Iced T and can he see how it turned out... Uh...... hahaha. Sure: Everything is parts to me at this point.

A little wedge-chop and a wheel change really helped this one out. And a more extreme treatment to Bad Medicine: Cherry Bomb: S'Cool Bus: And... believe it or not... Groovy Grader:

I like the 24th scale thing too. I thought it was weird when I was a kid but now it makes for some nice detail work Rommels Rod as Lil' St. Nick

What a great showing of builds, and a fantastic topic before we start a contest with TD kits!!! Here are a few more that I have done in the past few years.
Garbage Truck....Cherry Bomb (with modified chopper)Modified Red Baron....Box stock Red Baron....For a lot of us, Tom Daniel kits were the best building models out there (then, and now) They were great subjects, with awesome artwork on the boxes, and to this day, always bring back wonderful memories of better times, and our youth. Thanks Tom!!!
