I had the chance getting this baja humbug through e bay a couple years back, I had saved them knowing I will get to reach that point of building one.. so Now I just started building one... There are a few unfortunate things I have with this kit. First, I got this already built and the windshield was glued inside quite tightly.. I dont know why every people put too much glue glob in there , sighh, so I spent time taking it apart, and had the chance to shave small spot of dried glue inside the windshield and got it out...whew. It leaves a small hole of the part but it will be covered up when I get it built. so.. I had sent the chrome parts out for replating via ChromeTech USA, they are soo awesome and I love their service... so when I got them back , I set them all for you to see.. so right now I am at a point where I am going to start. I thought about the driver, as you have seen the traditional style of the driver, I thought I would make it look more fun and different so I took some sculpty and created a maniac cat , snickering and eager to drive rough ... what you think? I could not get to find lens for this headlight unfortunately and of course not every one have them so I am finding ways... I spoke with a fellow member of this forum, He was willing to donate me a set of headlight which is close to that size and to my surprise, it did look good ... I have some hesistations, so I will need your opinion.. I am comparing the donate one and the original one.. hmm .... this is where I am at right now.. and I have decided on paints and color etc... ( hee hee I ain't telling) Just that I need you all an opinion on the headlights... Should I have it all chromed or should I paint partial with body paint as you seen on the pix... UP next on that will be a while... as you know the usual... kids around my house b

Yeah, I had put all the pieces, cat, headlights, and the entire car together to take a look. Yes! That's it. The size of a cat and the bezels balances out well. So, currently I am working on improving the appearances of the bezels and wll be sending it out for chrome plating.....this means another waiting period time. I am going to contimue working on the rest while the bezels are in shop.
The antenna of this car has been broken so I found another way with this one.. it came out sooo cool!
Huh? No I ain't telling what its gonna be.. its a surprise :-)

One the best kits ever this one imho. I like even more than the Bug Out. Something about the chopped guards and short front/back bodywork that makes it very cool and very Dave Deal. Your going to have fun with this one. Ive seen a few great examples here in the past too. Really like the cool cat. ;D

I like the cat guy, I think it will add a nice touch to the build. I'm looking forward to seeing this one built. By the way, if you decide you dont want to use the smaller headlight buckets , I have a Humbug here that could really use them !

Okay guys, I m just pulling up a few pics of a cat I worked on.. I have put the body and its head all together and it looks so great, especially with the white race jacket looking like a real leather.. and yeah this cat is sure ready to snarl and run over the desert Heres the update for this time ... These are just a put together for you all to see, has not been glued yet... perhaps gonna be a white interior, not sure.. Should it be black or grey for strong contrast? haven't decided yet Looks good al together ... and the cat looks very sneaky and ready to rawl. Don't you all think ? Look out, opossum... you don't own the road. B

Hi Folks, I started working on pieces painting them and preparing them for final assembly so I thought I would drop you a couple of pics. I chose Boyd's True Blue pearl paint and applied over white primer on this body, it sure brightens up the color and its very hard to see but its metallic and very glossy. I compare with my other kit I bought years ago and kept them. You can see the difference of color on true plastic blue made by company. I rarely seen them in a different color. So Here it is I am still waiting for the parts from chrome tech.. usually takes a few weeks for them getting it done. As soon as they arrive, the engine begins.

Update: I still am working on details, adding things bit by bit now... and since I do have a decal for this baja with the Lettering of "61" with stp logo on it... I do like it but I feel there should be something different so I decided to design a logo or tasty mark on the car.. I decided to call this driver, wildcat... a simple way to call it. Heres the logo I am using it currently, have not decided which font to use so .... I have created another part of the item and I will surprise this with the car, and its gonna to make you laugh when you finally see them.. remember what I mentioned in the previous messages up there... thats a hint. the humor part b

Still waiting for the parts from Chrome... should get it next week I put most of these part altogether and its coming really great!! take a look I put the velet on the very back of the interior making it look very realistic in a cartoon version. I put the lettering 0 in the back of the driver because hes the only driver running in the dirt road down the woods and might ram over an opossum on the road Getting there

Thanks Don... yes, I want the engine compartment to pop out revealing the wild rear ends.. because there are gonna be wild sides and up front. So, I want to balance it out with other sides of the car . B

Hey Folks... Finally, the Head light bezels arrived!!! and I just immediately put them all together, OH MY .. it looks soo awesome!!! really cool!!! Right now its in gluing process.. I should finish it hopefully tomorrow and will snap a couple of pics and post up here and in the contest... WHEW!!! Heres the pic and the TEASER ONE! I put some few pieces all together for final assembly... put some front end together... and as you see the fitler, I painted them in a strong contrast to the color plus I want to show chrome on them... ahh perfect ! Gluing the interior in them... I decided not to put much glue in and I know in the future when this model car falls in a serious builder, they would want to be able to take it apart easily.. so I put small dabs in spot so he/she can just saw some off easily. Here s the Teaser one ! as always. Squirming in your seat eh? think... i have a clue for one thing to add.... what s down the road that hes gonna run over? b

Hello GUYS!! Heres the final work of this BAJA HUMBUG! There has been a lot of modifications, which obviously you see there... I had to replace the antenna because the old one was broken and very brittle so I thought I do something very special, adding a smily face on the tip... The headlight lens was missing so I replaced with the other headlight from other model given by a member of this forum. Thanks so much and after having it chrome plated.. it sure brightens the work .... many thanks again! I did the design of decals and want to make a strong contrast of the color using orange yellow against blue making it a wow look.. along with lot of flashy chrome parts. The top spot light were also from a different model car since it was also missing , so thanks to another member of this form for donating this. sure made it wild! And well yeah... I want to make the driver look exciting and meany because the car itself is designed to drive on a rough surface over dirt or whatever... so here it goes... and yeah the driver ran over a thing down the road... you ll see in the end of the photo! I did extensive work on the engine and want to make it pop out and very detail. I also used the different contrast color to go against the blue. All thats soo original and I have not done the work are the wheels which has not been touched because I want to make it look rugged as it just had driven over the road. RIP on these poor creatures. ;D HEre it is !!!! Smiley face on antenna! Remember back in the 70's OH NO! This driver is coming at something down the road and Splatted a thing there !!! OH now Its the trophy stick on the front! OH here's another! Just had it done on the Botox table ... before putting it on show pixs HEE HEE HEE really love the idea! you can literally hear the sound of splat once you see this picture... poor jack rabbit and youre right, don cully ENJOY!!!
