I've got 2 Paddy Wagons here with the gold chrome parts (like the top one), and 1 with the silver chrome (like the bottom one) - what's the story with that? Were the original kits in gold chrome and then some subsequent ones just had the chrome-chrome? Maybe a money saving measure by Monogram for some versions of the kit?
I can't decide which I prefer - I want to do a box-stock build of one of these and I've been debating for about 2 months which one to pick Input welcome, klown brothers!

I agree - the pinstriping and the fancier lettering look great on the newer one there! From what I can work out then, the 1968 original issue is the bottom one (although mine isn't THAT old...). Surprising - I always imagined in my head that it always had the gold chrome from the get-go. Every day's a school day! I guess I know which one is gonna be my original-style box stock build then!

I prefer the original all chrome Police 3 version because I'm nostalgic. I also have the newer version because it has the two figures there TD wanted to include in the original version. They are prepainted!

I just noticed - those supports for the windshield are mounting to different places on the two different box arts I posted above - I'll have to check the instruction sheets and see if that's an intentional thing or not. Weird!

They are prepainted! I like the original as well ; I'm not a big fan of changing things just because you can . The original TD artwork was so cool , I was like a moth to a light when I was in the hobby stores !

The first Paddy Wagon I ever had was in the ‘70s, and it was the ‘74 issue molded in a lighter blue and with regular chrome and the original style decals, so I have a nostalgic preference for the regular chrome and original decals. I also like all the “fun” decals on the original sheet. I think it would be cool to do one with the regular chrome, but with the gold headlights, radiator, horn and handbrake.
And yes, in the mid ‘80s, Monogram was on a kick with the gold chrome, so they did the Paddy Wagon that way and came up with the newer decal sheet with the new lettering and all of the pinstripes. It was like that until the 2005 reissue, with the original box art and decals, and regular chrome.
