I've never posted this on my website because of the Project Snowball fiasco... From modelers with hurt feelings to another taking credit for coming up with the idea in the first place. (uh, that would have been me, actually) Anyway... have a look NNL 10 11

I read about that Snowball build somewhere - was it on here, or on your site Paul? Looked like a cool build - didn’t it disappear for like 3 years and then reappear or something? 😂🤪
Funny to see the tuner table at the that show - two builds and one was a Smart car 😂. There’s some cool showrod stuff there, and I like some of the hot rod builds too. I want to attend the one nearest to me next year I think, see what the fuss is about

There’s some cool showrod stuff there, and I like some of the hot rod builds too. I want to attend the one nearest to me next year I think, see what the fuss is about Yeah, Project: Snowball was a great idea that everyone wanted in on, but some people just froze up when the box hit their house. I don't remember exactly 'who' rode around with it in their trunk for a year or if that was who we sent the 'Kriner Brothers' in to save it from being on the next milk carton. (you gotta be a little older to get that inference). Snowball started in January 2000. A new idea for the next millennium. And it was supposed to end up at the model car museum in Utah or Idaho or wherever the F* that used to be. (or maybe still is that no-one knows about)
There were many, and I mean MANY knock offs and copycats. It predated Dave's original Coffin Corner (born 2003 I think), and was born out of the 'Modelcarlist'. But even the modelcarlist went downhill and eventually, well, it's still alive so I'll give it that. Modelcarlist had a great beginning with Jeff & Judy Somebody in Alabama but went through a bunch of 'owners' who couldn't keep it alive with the advent of bulletin boards like this one. (And the many copycats of this one that have come and gone since the 'new' Facebook lists)
Dave Mikrut (RIP) did a BUNCH to the body just to save it from crumbling apart. By the time he got it the first time, it was in such bad shape from a few that didn't have any respect for it in packing for shipping. I guess they just figured a chopped and channeled body could just be tossed in a box with parts like a new kit would be.
I think the 3 year thing you're referencing was when it was in the hands of the painter. I don't know if the body color painter was the same person as the flames painter. My guess is something happened during the flames painting to the hood because the hood is a slightly darker shade than the body right now. It couldn't use the hood from another 40 Ford kit because that one was sectioned. (quite sweetly if I may brag so myself)
I met Dave Mikrut at the NNL2008. He's slightly to your right, off center in the 1st picture, under the No Smoking sign in a flamed shirt. (and I think one of the Kriner boys is 2 to his right.
So where is Snowball now? It's in hiding, safely, in the care of 'Starry Eyes', aka Chuck Darnell. I may have mixed some of the facts up in this response to you. But since it's just between us two, no-one else will know if I screwed up any of the facts. The whole Snowball fiasco, along with the lunatics that were here, at the Corner, trying to take over the place, made me just throw my hands up in the air and walk away in 2013. THAT'S why there haven't been any new additions to the Guest Gallery. It's my fault. That and people were sending either 5 to 10 new additions to the GG at a time. (burnout) OR. They were sending Mother's Worry caricature creations and the like. (which spawned Car-Toons, which Bob has a complete handle on keeping it sane over there) I really hope he doesn't go crazy. But, in fact, Bob was very helpful with research for another contest that happened in 2013 and will be going together after the Paddy Wagon one..
Soooo anyways Jim... uh.. what was the question?

Soooo anyways Jim... uh.. what was the question? I don't remember, but I liked the story
Can't wait to see what Bob found too - I've really been enjoying looking at some of these old contest pics, so many inspiring builds!

. before Dave passed we talked on the phone and then he shipped the unfinished , broken OVER TRAVELLED Snowball to me. Dave stated that Snowball would be in my care and custody. His words were “ you are now the gatekeeper to do with Snowball as you wish because I know you will finish her” Over the coarse of time with me working 2 jobs and playing live music it did I fact set for close to a year .. bodywork still a bit rubbery from all the modifications , with some items having became detached . So ...After being called everything but a white man by speculating “listers” who were butt hurt over not being able to participate in the project and others who just decided to chime in with their peers I went to work on the aging modifications and finishing the interior .. as time went on the hate mail continued to where I finally left the MCL.. people speculating not having a clue and bashing me behind the scenes . It was pointless to argue over things MOST had no clue of what she’d been through .. I kept visiting Dave’s final words to me which made it “ok” . yes SNOWBALL is here , finished, alive and well .. haters will always hate without all the facts and voice their opinions.. however without respect not everyone’s opinions matter ..
