DJ!!!!!...........Take a deep breath brother.....relax!!!!! ;D ;D ;D..........its just plastic...................the events of the world will not stop, trust me!!!!! ;D ;D ;DFirst and foremost, it is a hobby. The definition of hobby is: a favorite occupation, topic, etc., pursued for amusement. The definition of amusement:state of enjoyment, pasttime, entertainment, recreation, pleasure.
Believe me, sometimes I have to keep checking the definition myself!!!! ;D ;D......Just build what you want, have fun and a good time. You are gonna have a heart attack at the rate you are going!! ;D ;D............I wanna see what you can build before I end taking you for one last ride in the back of my hearse! ;D ;D ;D ;Di

Firsty, thanks for the kind words on my brain farts...I've been in the mood to build these last few weeks and am now getting to a point where I can make some headway. Between my job and the ever-changing home life, time has been scarce....
Barten, you, sir, are truly gifted. I remember just being blown away with the tape dispenser bus... that was the first time I'd ever seen anything made with household items that actually looked good.
Head boss-guy Dave: One day this winter I will set up a day to shoot all of the finished stuff I have and mail you a CD for the gallery.
Mr. DJ.... you seem to be wrestling with a dilemma of some sort. Models are supposed to be for fun. This is a 'showrod' site that used to see a lot more productive action than it currently has. Part of the reason, I feel, is the name game contest that left many ideas and projects stalled on the bench. I think we lost a bit of momentum... I know I did. I don't think we have a lack of showrods problem as of late. Some of the people who worry about that sort of thing, myself included, should throw a build up or dust off a stalled project and show whatcha got. Ask not what the Corner can do for you, but what you can do for the corner.... or something like that. lol..
I think you are doing fine, personally, but if you are building to please others and not yourself, then you need to take a look at things. I enjoy the physical process of modeling and get excited when I build. I get up in the middle of the night and can't sleep cause I get a vision of a three-engined Paddy Wagon or something that fires me up.... I love throwing myself down a hole and seeing if I can build my way out. Problem solving and figuring out the stance and logistics of a kitbash is my reward... if you guys think they are neat, bonus. If not, whatever... I gots lots on the burners and I'll keep plugging away. A showrodder is in the tiniest percentile of the model building community. We are the freaks and geeks, and I've been told many somewhat negative things about what I build from "normal" folks... "I don't get that stuff" .. "They are not real"... "Those are dumb.." "I can't believe you opened the box and THEN bashed it..." some often forget that Roth's Outlaw sold millions of issues and realistically was the probably the catalyst for attracting as many young model builders as the hobby enjoyed in it's heyday.... but I digress.... lol...
Build what you want and build for yourself.

Hey DJ.. Glad ya like my LI`l Brothel.. It's not in the gallery because it was built for a contest. TD contest I think?. We never added contest builds to the gallery due to using up too much space on the corner. Also because those contests were hosted by others so they have the collection of pic's. You do bring up a good point, We should have a link to the old contests on the home page..Or do we?
And listen, after many of years posting pics here I still can't get anybody to reply well not the old timers ( lazy dogs.) the new guys have been steppin' up. So stop driving over your plastic and jsut build something. when I get fed up with my projects I build something box stock for the fun of it which I'm about to do again.

Ken is absolutely right! Build for yourself, not for the sake of others or just to make it fit in! The "elders", aka "old farts", including myself, of this board, have continued to spew out a steady stream of showrods/bikes for a long time. In Brandon and I's conversation yesterday, we both agreed that the contest thing has been a big reason you don't see some of this stuff for many months, and then all of the sudden the board is flooded! Years back, there was no "top secret". We posted our progress every other day, and it was a blast. Many of the cars you guys have mentioned are actually in the Guest Gallery in some of the old contest sections, or on Paul's "Canney's Garage" website. (I think he has them all) If you ever need motivation, these are the places to browse to see some sheer ingenuity and downright craziness! There really isn't alot to be resolved. It's simple. Cut the pissin' and moanin' out or go visit the Hobby Henhouse board where you'll find suitable surroundings. This girlie sh*t doesn't cut it with me or a lot of others in this group, and it's caused problems. Build a showrod, even if it's only one a year. Take your time and do a quality build, and stop gluing every piece of crap you find in your parts box together in some mishmash form. Although none of us are "Pro" builders, whatever the definition of that is, we HAVE constantly tried to progress in the quality of the builds that are here. A small bit of thought and creativity shows in your builds. There was a time when NOBODY knew how to post pics, and on the old format only Dave could. It was all a surprise, good or bad, until it ended up in the Gallery or one of the contests! We don't need to see pics of the boxtop of a kit your thinking about building (unless it's something really rare), we don't need to see the parts tree's, get it? Show us your mock-up or primer, then post accordingly and make it interesting. If you made the shift knob from one of your Grandma's kidney stones, then show how you did it! "I glued engine half #23 to engine half #24" really isn't necessary! LOL. Above all, have some fun, don't make it a job. That's when the fun ends, and everyone's panty's start twisting into knots.

Tim well said. . . grandma's kidney. . . I have to look into that! Time you have a great eye. . . and I agree we all come here at different levels but there is enough experience here to help others reach a different level. . . I know i ask for pointers all the time! And I need help with the chassis and painting. But I will get there. Tim you have several of my top ten all time favorites in your collection posted here!
Brandon and Paul. . thanks for the comment with the short bus a nd builds.
The other day someone posted and there were some great thoughts and suggestions to the build. . . I loved that. . .now who ever the builder. . . can take the e ideas or leave them. . . but there were some great ideas given. . . and that is all part of the learning scale. . .. I would like to see more of that!
Contest dead? Say it isn't so? Is Dan out of commission? I hope he is OK. Is he just going to return entry fees to those who didn't get decals and end the contest? That would be sad. but he needs to take care of himself and we all understand that. I have mine almost done! So are we entering it into the open showrod contest?
DJ build. . .and build for yourself. Jump in! It's ok! You'll do good here. . . we all just need to open up a little and take it all in. . .and then build.
About the old timers commenting. . . I agree. . . I have posted stuff and hearing the chirping. . .. but I don't always comment either. . . sorry! But it makes me want to think a little more wild next time. It is getting cold and I have the building Itch again! and I'm trying to fit it all in. . .. BUT EVERY ONE knows when you have a killer build going. . . I MEAN KILLER BUILD. . .. I'm still waiting for one. . . where you sit back and can't believe how cool it is. . . .and we all know when we see a build posted. . .it's a winner!
Sleet and freezing rain tonight. . . time to stay in! !! and Cancel all things

I came to this board BECAUSE of the great showrods. Loved this board but... I posted a few build starts. One of them was the Futurian by Moriarity. Instead of buying the resin kit on Ebay, I scratch built my own. But of course Kustomcity, Bill Michalson (sp) thought it was better to slam me because it was not correct like his was and ask why I wasted my time building something someone else already done instead of building something that wasn't made. That kinda took the wind out of my sails. I still like coming here to look at the pics and get info, but it will be a while before I want to post anything anymore.

Hit him in the mouth. It's that neener-neener, nit-picky mentality that plagues other areas of the hobby. I hate it. I also hate the guys who turn their nose up at a kit because it's not "right" or complain about the inaccuracies of the kit. Most are just looking for an excuse not to build anything. It's always easier to find fault than to give praise for some reason. We should all be happy anybody is building anything....

"Hit him in the mouth. " Well I am not THAT kind of guy. And of course I know you were just saying that in humor. It just kinda makes you not want to share anymore. But I haven't left either so I guess that's a good sign. And there is some nice stuff that I enjoy looking at on here pretty often too.

I think Mark Moriarity would be flattered and impressed at your work, I was! Post it again for him to see, as he frequents the site now and is a member! Mark is that kind of a guy.

I sent it to Mark in Email. He dug it. Mark was a cool guy. I got some other stuff I am working on and maybe I will share. It is of course more scratchbuilt Roth stuff that a few people made resins of already. But hey, I am here because I like building stuff. And sometimes I would rather build the WHOLE thing myself. lol

Thanks Barten and Bill. The point I was attempting to make was that if everyone here could build one or two show rods each year, we would have a ton of eye candy. I work a full time job, commute 4 hours a day minimum five days a week, and have house, a wife and three kids and still find a few hours a week to model. I don't spend a lot of money on my hobby, just put that extra effort into building something that will please me and hopefully others as well. That's why I stated if I can do it, anyone can...at least anyone who puts their mind to it.

Man Tory, I've never been a big fan of the Ice Cream truck but you make it look really good. Just like the real deal man. NIce work! And I'm sure I commented on the Maverick back when you first posted it. I definitely love that one being a Maverick fan myself. The LiL Coffin's paint is really sweet too. Looks like glass! Thanks for sharing!

You did something with the body first right? ? ? ? changed a line or something on the body. . . if I remember? ? ?? but KILLER blew me away back then. . and still does!

Thanks A.J.!
As for the Ice Cream Truck, it is pretty much out of the box. I did remove the raised pin striping lines molded into the body and fenders since I was planning on replicating the pin striping with decals. I also modified the box in the rear by reducing the hight of the side glazing and adding more plastic to the upper and lower sides. Other than that, it is pretty much as the kit comes. And the colors are what ol' George picked back when he built it!

I found these online also.... figured I'd drop them in the mix... TJ Taxi.. I added a Model A cowl and everything else is from tractor trailer kits.. I't called the Mother Trucker, or the Rig Rod... The Rommel's Rail... Another in-progress brain fart... I just pulled this one out the other day... I have some more at work, maybe I'll pull them out and shoot them also.... Tory: The Ice Cream truck is awesome! I'm really digging it.
