I never paid much attention to it, but Proboards allows the administrator to set "rankings" for members, based on their numbers of postings. Paul Canney obviously set these up in the Board's early days. They are not secret, so for the curious, here ya go:

Thanks for posting this. Since ISCA was a sponsor, I went to their website and found this "standings" list. I see there is a "local" guy at the top. Not sure what to make of the list. In other words, just making appearances with your custom (in this case,) moves you up the list? Anyone? Anyone? www.theisca.com/standings/#custom

Talk about trippy! Amazing detail. Thanks for sharing, Joel. On further review, I was so smitten with the details on the modeling table, I missed the FULL MOON shining through the werewolf's window! Now we need Bud Abbot and Lou Costello leaning over, showing them pointers. (Reference to my childhood of this classic:)

OK this is a trip. I don't play video games but this is apparently from the Grand Theft Auto IV (2013?) game. It's about 2 minutes long:

Anyone ever see this before? My friend Mike Scott alerted me to this tonight: free3d.com/3d-model/groovy-grader-1412.htmlSo for $15, you can download the 3D file and print it? in 3D, complete with every detail and not have to build the thing? In whatever scale you wanted? And then paint and decal it? Mike tells me that you can do 3D scanning with a smartphone now By the way, no way TD licensed this operation.

Some of you already know this I'm sure, but for those who have not, check out Scalemates, scale modeling database. It's quite impressive for looking up "every" issue of a scale model. For example, here is a search for the TD Red Baron: www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION%5B%5D=All&q=Monogram+red+baron*What I love is the "Product timeline" on the kit:

Thank you Joel, a.k.a. Gort! Folks, I only met Joel online here a few weeks ago as he has been advising me on approaches to get the Show Rod Rally into a slow-growth and maintenance mode again. I have seen some of his work online and no spoilers here, but wait til you see what's coming from him soon. Welcome aboard!
And reading that part again about the earthquake and losing those built-up kits is disheartening, to say the least. Finally, I have the book Joel mentioned, Classic Plastic, and as expected, his skill level, like many members here, is outstanding.

As previously mentioned in a separate post, I'm in the early stages of cleaning up part of the Show Rod Rally with in intent of even getting the Guest Gallery going again for new submissions. For starters: - Moved selected article downloads from The Bad News to the Tips and Tricks forum. I'll be deleting the Bad News in the future, so if you want anything else on there, get it soon.
- Removed the ability to create new posts on The Builder's Showcase. I'm not sure exactly why Paul created this forum, as I find it confusing. It only has 22 postings, so I'll be moving these threads to the Completed Show Rods forum (I just discovered I can do this--cool.) Soon, I'll be killing it as part of this housekeeping.
Speaking of housekeeping, there are a number of links that are broken and lots of other issues I'll be slowly fixing. For example, Dave Marek's bio is WAY out of date (I have reached out to him for an update.). Lots of other things too, like my 73 GTO Odyssey web site still showing (broken) "Flash" music snippets. Gezzzzzzz, I don't even have that car anymore after selling it to my good friend Scotty Doyle, who helped me pull the engine and redo other improvements on it. And I have nothing on my 72 Chevelle adventure on Route 66, my 58 Impala adventure and ownership, and my 67 Buick GS400. I'll think about how I tell those stories (if at all) in the revamp.
Truth is, after Paul Canney passed, I was not sure what I wanted to do here. After lots of thinking and discussing with myself, I decided I was going to rebuild it with a modern tool (happens to be called Rapidweaver.)
(Insert 20 hours here of experimenting and working the Rapidweaver community to eventually realize I was in over my head, even though I built 3 sites with Rapidweaver from 2007--2012.)
OK, back to the drawing board. How about I just get a WYSIWYG HTML editor, and just fix the broken stuff? After playing with another 5 different web editors, I have settled on something called "Pinegrow". At least I think I have settled on it, because I have not given them $150 yet (I'm already out $80 on the other software I have now abandoned.)
OK so that's your update for now. By the way, when doing my research, I got on 4 different discussion boards and I think they were all run by the "Discord" platform. Man that's pretty slick stuff. But we have a bazillion postings here and no way can I blow all that up for a sexy new tool. That would be like leaving my wife of 38 years.......hmmmmm......ah sorry I lost my train of thought.
OK, that's your update for now. I'm locking this post, so if you want to give me feedback, him me at: gto1973@mac.com.

Store displays--sheeshhhhh they are so rare and special to this hobby in my mind, because while the models themselves can be and are reissued, the ancient store displays are not. They provide a unique portal through which we can experience those days, looking through a window at a hobby store, and seeing the desired outcome of a quest in a 3-D fantasy setting. So cool.
Glad you saved it and good luck!

Thank you for your testimony about how the Rally has helped you, and your mom's influence on your hobby life today. Best of luck with the remodel and moving in, not to mention staying healthy now in your 50s.
Reading what you wrote was timely for me, because last night, I took the leap to purchase "Rapidweaver" again, in a new quest to rebuild The Show Rod Rally into a modern website. Obviously, the main site (not the Proboards Coffin Corner,) is using late-1990s technology and in a certain irony, has become its own version of a vintage entity here in cyberspace.
But my hand here has been really forced by Paul Canney's passing and the fact that Paul was maintaining The Guest Gallery for me while I was on the road, fighting the forces of evil in corporate America. There are too many talented members in this community who are posting their works on the Coffin Corner when they should be in the Guest Gallery for all to see with ease and enjoy. So that's a big part of why I'm taking on the rebuild project this summer now nearing the end of my 2nd year in retirement.
I'll tell everyone more about that in a post later once I knock the cobwebs off that part of my brain and see where it's going.

Over a decade ago, I visited Tom a few times, because I bought him a Macintosh computer and trained him on it, all while rebuilding his website.
The 2nd visit was at his newly-built home in AZ. I have some pics of me with his Vette. However, I do not think it was the color of what's on the box art. I think it was sitting in primer or something? Let me dig and I'll see what I have.
Hold please....someone will be with you shortly.

Great build dave great paint and overall detail and finish So good you are building these rare kits better than sitting on the shelf These kits are made to be built and not collected A great point about not "letting them sit on the shelf". Once we check out of inhabiting this rock, it's very unlikely that our heirs will build them. So keep 'em coming gang!

WOW! That was extra cool. I need to get my ass to this show next year. This story is amazing--how he acquired it, how it was stolen from him, the recovery process, and the 15-year restoration with his son. I love it. It so happens the Orange Hauler was the first model show rod I bought on eBay in 1998. Thanks for sharing this with us. Check this out:www.starbirdcarshows.com/

Now that I have discovered Plugins for these forums, I thought this one would be handy. It's called Quick Reply BBCode Buttons. Gives you the ability to format your quick replies as you can with a new thread.

Not sure how many of you know of this show rod. I did not until this week when a friend sent it to me: The Reactor is a custom car built by Gene Winfield. The low slung car featured height adjustable suspension, front wheel drive, and a powerful engine, and appeared in episodes of four TV series: Bewitched, Star Trek, Batman, and Mission: Impossible.[1]en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Reactor_(show_rod)
