What do you get when you cross a 1/24 scale Groovy Grader with a 1/25 scale Tiger tank?
You get the Tundra Tracker!
I posted the WIP in the other section months ago.
I had purchased the Groovy Grader at my local hobby shop a while ago, then I found an old Tamaiya Tiger tank 1/25 scale that was missing pieces and covered with dust at a flea market for $2. I never put these two together mentally until after I got home and took the tank apart. After looking at the treads I looked at the shelf I keep my unbuilt models on and saw the Groovy Grader and BAM it hit me.
I narrowed the base of the tank so the grader would fit inside and removed some of the tread wheels. The tank had some shovels and an ax and I thought I would add them to the new Tracker. When it came to the front end I needed some sort of skis instead of the wheels/tires. I had some clear plastic salad tongs I got from the dollar store, one half of the tong was a fork. I used the two outer tines from that fork for the skis. Then I found a pair of snow skis and decided they needed to be incorporated into the Tracker. I couldn’t put them anywhere on the vehicle without them looking out of place so I cut in a trunk and using one of the tank hatch cover hinges I made a trunk for the skis. I added parts box pieces to make the headlights. The fuel tank is made from using 2 moon hubcaps glued onto a short length of ½ copper pipe and chromed.
I have to say that before I joined this forum I didn’t delve much into the artistic freedom side of modeling, but after seeing some of the masterpieces here I “saw the light” so to speak. Now whenever I see a model or walk thru a dollar store I look at what I can make out of it. I can’t thank you guys enough for the inspiration! You are truly talented and seem to bring out the innovativeness of others.
All comments welcome.
I sure hope you like this and I thank you for looking.
Dave
