It's a Shalako, designed by Dean Jeffries. I think it's an MPC kit.

It's the MPC 1/20 scale Shalako. Designed and built by Dick Dean.I got one last year with the intention of cloning in 1/25. Haven't started it yet. Paid $10.00.

Thanks guys. I did not think it was a Barris car but wanted to make sure. I guess it will not be part of my display in June/July with Mr. Barris ;D I paid a little bit more than 10.oo but it still looks cool. Cleaned up nicely

That pops up on eBay on a semi-regular basis, but sure not for $10! Usually about $45 or so, from what I've seen, depending on the condition. I've bid on that a few times, lost each time ... someday one will be mine! Looks like a pretty cool kit to have.

I got lucky! Bought a "My Mother the Car" and 3 others cheap. Spread the shipping cost out for 4 builds. The only thing wrong with the Shalako was a broken axle. A drill. a piece of wire, and glue solved that in about 3 minutes. Oh! Anyone have the instructions for a "My Mother the Car" or maybe a copy?

I have the instruction at home for My Mother The Car and will scan those to you when I get there. Looks like I paid 27.99 for the buggy plus shipping but to me that is still pretty good. It is complete and the decals are pretty good. One small scratch but ok. Thanks again

About a hundred years ago, when I was young (eh,younger), I was very heavy into VW's & dune buggies. I was tempted to get one of those bodies for a chassis I had preped. But, a guy gave me a Berry Mini-T for painting and stripping his Mini-T. Being in FLA (Sunshine State) and it looking similar to a S/R I took it! Never looked back.

i just picked up another Shalako at a model car swap meet and have yet another question. the one i had bought previously that was posted in the pictures had gold decals/stripes which appear to be stock but The one I got today has a blue ones. The picture has the car with blue stripes. Were there two different versions of the kit or what is the deal here? The one I got today is missing the rims (at least) plus a few small things but i think it can be saved. The box is junk but the decals are ok and can be repruduced.

I noticed the gold decals but took it there was a reissue that way. Before, all I had ever seen was the blue with red decals. If the decals get repoped, I'll take a set. Talking about that kit has me wanting to redo mine and make it really nice.
