Digger's ride gets a little update. The airplane parts are from a Revell Hawker Typhoon.

Thanks Ira. I started doing some fine fitment of the fuselage. I have the blowers fitting nice and snug, next is the exhaust. The tail wings from the kit are used as the main wings. I have the tail section cut down to fit, I just need to figure out the tail wings. The alternator needed clearance and the hole for it was ugly, so I made an intake scoop to hide it.

I think it's a car made from plane parts that wishes it could fly. Got the rear wing done. Instead of an airplane wing, I went with a race car style wing.

Got some paint on this one. Decided on different pipes (need to adjust the alignment) and swapped the original kit's mags with some better fitting rims. Finally figured out what to do with the roof posts from the Roth Beatnik Bandit - use 'em for front fenders!!! That's Krylon Banner Red over Krylon primer. Considering that other post reporting awful bad results with it, I still gave it a chance. I think I'll wait awhile before applying decals

I would try Yarn. Easy to find, cut and pull apart to get individual fibers. [glow=red,2,300]This Just Might Work!!![/glow] I'm going to give the "Blood Shot Eyes Technique" a try! Hey Don, come over here for a minute.... ;D

[glow=red,2,300]NOSE JOB & IMPLANTS!!![/glow] I've been working on Don's Snake like features. Removed several teeth and went for 4 Big Fangs with a few small Sharp Teeth. The teeth are easily cut out with an X-acto knife and glued in place with Zap-A-Gap Glue. Added more putty for the Jaw & Snout....

Okay, I'm in. This party, err, contest looks like a really fun, cool, inspiring group event! I'm glad the completion date is still a ways off, or I'd have had to just lurk. Also glad that Ira's rules allow for a partially-finished oldie to be dusted off, and worked on. Coolness all around, Mr. Ira! Here's some pics of a stalled project from several years ago. I took one of the Zzzz-28 Deal's Wheels Old School reissues, and modded it to be something I had imagined that Mad Max had seen, in the time that had passed between the first movie and the second movie; and that he had stolen a bunch of ideas from, to convert his car into what we'd seen in the second movie. (Hey, something had to have given him all of those cool ideas!?) I've always pictured this with some punk rock chick driving it - but that may have to wait. For now, the main reason I'm resurrecting this one is to practice / learn about new-to-me painting tricks. I want to extend what I know about using layered "rusty" paint. (More on that, later ... as I figure out where I wanna go with it!) The pics above show the screening material from a 1:1 car's air cleaner, being used as a protective mesh around the forward window areas. It's glued on with spots of Zap CA's water-thin super glue; used in conjunction with baking soda and talc (which had been dyed first, so that it would dry in a visible color, instead of drying almost transparent). The next pic, below, shows some additional spots of the super glue / dyed powders: but this time I was using it to build up and texture some areas around the fenders, where I'd ground holes right through them. The idea being to have added rot around those fender areas; and then, if they were so structurally weak that I had to add some material back on, using those materials gave me what looked like thin sheet metal with a lot of rusty texture to it. Somewhere after those pics were done, I cut part of the nose off, and flipped it upside down before re-attaching it. It just had a cooler look that way, with a more laid down hood area; and I felt it would look a little less obvious that it had begun as a Zzzz-28. I shot the whole model with some Plasti-Kote automotive primer; then hit certain areas with a bit of Aclad, just to see what the surfaces really looked like. (And to try out using Alclad, too.) That's all older work. I did a bit of work on the hood's new scoops, earlier this week ... but I'll wait to post those, till I have those areas the way I want them. Meanwhile, I'll just be watching what you guys (and at least one girl) do with your cool Car-toon models...

[glow=red,2,300]Restoring The Lines...[/glow] When I attached the Cockpit Cover and Replaced the trim on the body, the separating lines got sloppy. So I got a X-Acto Knife & a Kona Saw and got to work... I started by scribing the lines with a Number 11 Blade in an X-acto Knife. Keep the blade as flat as possible for straight lines... Next, I carefully went over the lines with the Zona Saw... A little clean up and putty and I'm done with the New Lines! ;D
