I'll start off with one of my favorite showrod builds. This build was conceived out of the want for a new Tom Daniel kit. Not seeing any on the horizon any time soon..... I designed my own. Years before this build I had found a styrene plastic pumpkin coach cake decoration. It looked perfect for a 1/24 scale build so I bought two not really knowing what I'd do with them. This is what one became. Chassis is scratch built from Plastruct stock. Made to look like a old coach chassis with a yoke for the 'horses'. Hang Man provided the suspension front and rear. Revell parts pack engines. Lots of parts box items including some model railroad fence material. Thanks Faux box
Here is another model built out of the desire for new showrod kits. I love TD's Beer Wagon....so much so that when the kit came out I could not afford the $1.24 K Mart wanted for it. So I grabbed a bunch of balsa I had on hand and built my own looking a ad photos in Car Model magazine. As soon as I got the actual kit I tossed the balsa version....wish I still had it.
So starting with the TD Beer Wagon kit and my love for old COE trucks.....this is what I came up with. I modifies the stock chassis by cutting out the engine bottom. I also removed the front fenders and lower nose. I fabricated a new cab front from Beer Wagon radiator and plastic stock. A single headlight was made from plastic tube. The entire bed was made from Plastruct stock with Grandt Line NBW castings (bolts) Exhaust are from the AMT 57 Ford issue from the early 1980's. Mock-up
Engine was moved to mid chassis. Don't recall where the motor came from....but injectors from Beer Wagon were used. Cab steps are from Munsters Coach....same kit I raided for Rella's Rod!!
I made the decals for a politically incorrect 'Budweiser' delivery scheme. Another fun project with a 'what if' they made new showrod kits. Thanks
