How do you plan to turn that foam into a helmet? Sheathe it with epoxy putty?

It'll be interesting to see whether that works out; I would think you'd get a lot of the foam texture showing through the vacuformed plastic.
If I were doing it, I'd be inclined to roll out epoxy putty into sheets, lay them over the form, and, after the putty had hardened, melt out the foam using acetone. But you'd have a lot of cleanup sanding to do.

Well, it looks like a very interesting project to me, and I've been watching it regularly. Your engine seems to be progressing very well!

Lack of feedback is not a sign no one cares about this great project.....'traditional' internet use is way down.....too many other things out there today to burn your time.....just us hard line oldtimers left. My best bud and I am working on a modern update to a 1/12 scale Baron so I am watching.....hang in there..

Wow, that will be a huge build, it looks great! Where does this Mercedes engine come from? Yeah, Bill, Dave's right, it's not back then... ... Times have changed and the habits even more... ... but this is a great project and it will certainly be admired... ... even, if it happens quietly...

That helped a lot ! I recognized what you were building but wasn't too sure about the one cylinder sitting on top , now it makes sense . This IS gonna be huge !

Did I already say this is amazing work ? It's amazing work ! By the way , are you going to cut those treads in the tire or do you have another trick up your sleeve ?

On the tires, did you paint the pattern or cut it?

I've contemplated cutting a tread pattern in a flat sheet of plastic and casting them in black rubber , then gluing the rubber piece to a tire that's been cut down . I know it's more involved than it sounds but I still may give it a try . Looking forward to seeing your solution !

Last casting I did was a 1/12 scale head and valve cover for a small block Ford motor. Yours are much tougher.

I like how you're doing the tire , when you're finished it will look factory ! And I agree with you , no spark plug boots .

No plug boots is fine.....I know some early Model T's had bare brass straps to conduct power to the plugs!!! cool work!

The brass connectors would look great on that engine. Bill next time you post a pic of the engine put an original Baron in front it like you did with the frame rail.
