 With many thanks to Brandon and the other admins for letting me put this together! How about a contest, guys? Lets Make The Coffin Corner Great Again!  So, the rules are simple - all you Krazy Klowns think of a name for a showrod. Send me the name in a message before September 14th and on that day I'll put them all in a hat (probably some kinda big crazy top hat like Big Daddy) and I'll draw the names received out at random and redistribute them back to all you Krazy Klowns. You probably won't get your own name back - the fun is in seeing what name you get! Soon as you get your build name - think of a concept and start building! Be sure to post lots of in-progress shots to inspire your fellow Krazies! If you're stuck for an idea for a name, maybe play with the Showrod Name Generator and see what it comes up with!The idea of the contest is to encourage some activity and excitement on the site, and to get some of you lurkers back to the bench! Let's support this amazing site by using it for what it's meant for - building some crazy showrods and having a blast talking about them! To help motivate you guys further there will be prizes! I'm going to put up at least one kooooool showrod kit of some sort, and possibly more if we get a decent turnout. I'm not sure what it'll be yet - I might look through my stash here and pick something out, or see what my local hobby store has, or see if I can find something rare and interesting. If anyone would like to donate a prize of any kind, that would be SUPER cool too! Let me know and I'll add it to a list so everyone can see what's on offer. Parts, kits, showrod memorabilia - anything you have lying around that someone might dig - it will all be appreciated!
So, I urge you all - PLEASE consider taking part in this fun contest! it's more fun to build than to watch - lets get some of you long term members involved again - and all the new ones too! This site is such a GREAT resource - let's get it rocking and rolling again and blow off some kobwebs! Being one of the "old" guys going back to the old forum, I'll jump in. Hopefully this will encourage some of the veteran members(and new ones), to join in. I can make my own custom decals. Maybe there is someone here willing to offer to make them for others for a small fee. NOW TO COME UP WITH SOME COOL NAMES. I'LL SUBMIT SEVERAL IN CASE SOME JUST WANT A NAME AND MIGHT STRUGGLE WITH COMING UP WITH ONE.

This is so awesome - thanks for getting involved guys! I know we have a few weeks to give everyone chance to think of names and stuff before we start building - but I was excited to see if anyone would even enter! Too cool!
Jerry G - welcome back! I hope we get to see some more old/new guys too!

I know at least one builder mentioned wanting to finish their build from the ORIGINAL Name Game contest back in 2007 and I think 'why not!'. Likewise, if someone came up with a name for a build that they wanted to do themselves rather than getting a name from 'the hat' then why not! Build along too! We shouldn't discourage anyone from building anything! For me though, the exciting thing is not knowing which name I'll be getting - but to each their own. I just wanna have some fun and see this place lively and full of excitement again! |

I like the idea ( with or without decals ) ...... but I suggest that 2 names should be submitted & the participants be given two,( & pick one of the two ) ... instead of just one ; I think it would make a lot more sense to have that extra choice; in case one of the names given just doesn't work for the guy who gets it..... and add to the interest.

I've actually got a couple of guys who have submitted some 'reserve' names - just in case someone gets something and they REALLY can't make it work. ZZZLAD had a cool idea:
"You know, I had another idea ..... seeing that decals might be a problem for some guys, why not have the participants include a plaque with the builds name to display along with their finished model. Just a little sign board that they could make using markers, rub on lettering, or whatever. I think it would really add a whole 'nother dimension to the contest ..... it wouldn't have to be crazy, just something to bring it up a notch "
I wouldn't say it's compulsory or anything, but it might be fun if anyone wanted to build a display sign or something to go with their build! I think I'll do one for mine!

Well... bout entering two names, and everybody getting 2 names, and picking just one of them.... I`ll try to explain what I mean. Okay... The idea is that everybody enters 2 names, and everybody GETS 2 names. Then they will choose one of the 2 names, to build. If that is the case, then I strongly suggest that the 2 names we will recieve, will be a set of names from ONE participant. That we keep everybodys 2 names as a set, instead of mixing randomly. Why? Because if they are just mixed randomly, then any given guy might not see any of his names, used. If Mr. A`s two names goes to Mr. B and Mr C, and mister B chooses Mr K`s name and discards the one from Mr. A, and Mr. C chooses Mr. L`s name and discards the other one from Mr. A - then Mr. A will not see any of his names beeing used. And that is a shame, because that is a big part of the fun, to see how other builders interprets the names. Does it make sense? Do you understand what I mean, or did I make it too complicated? |

I get what you mean - it would be disappointing if you came up with a great name and it never got built. I'm not sure how to handle that best...I guess if people want to submit a 'reserve' name in case someone doesn't have a good idea (or the kit/inclination/parts/whatever) to build the first choice they could do that too. In an ideal world though everyone will be like "that's a cool name! I'm inspired!" and it'll all just work |
