I did some more work on this build today. I added the blower belt and pulleys, and I added the exhaust headers. I had to adjust the engine mounts on the frame a tiny bit to get the engine to "sit" on all four corners. It's starting to look like a drag race vehicle with the body on the chassis... I'm going to have to look for a better fuel pump as the one included in the kit seems way too tiny to me, and trying to route fuel lines to it wouldn't work as the blower belt would be in the way. Any suggestions from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure how the fuel pump should look on one of these motors - might be an easy thing to scratchbuild with some plastruct tube or similar though? Or aluminum tube, if you wanted to be fancy?
Looking GREAT Steve! Nice build!

Looking GREAT Steve! Nice build! Thanks, Jim! I was thinking along the same lines as you, using some tubing and whittling a block for the end to route the main fuel lines. I appreciate your suggestion/idea.

I finally finished the fuel pump for this. I ended up using a short piece of rod, sanded one end until it fit into the hole in between the blower pulleys. I glued the shortened fuel pump to the other end of the rod and gave it almost 24 hours to set up. I glued the rod into the hole, gave the rod and pump a coat of silver paint. I think it looks good. I also painted the top of the Vertex Magneto black. I will install the solder fuel lines once the engine has been glued into the chassis. Here are a couple of photos to show how the engine looks... As far as I'm concerned the engine is as complete as I want to make it. I don't want to make this build any more complicated. I'm doing this for the fun.

I think I've decided on a paint color choice for the body....Orange. And for the chassis tubing, gloss Black, and the sheet metal around the cockpit...orange. What do you guys think? Suggestions?

Orange sounds like a great choice! I'd be tempted to go with a candy orange or a flake of some sort, but it's your build! Should look really cool!

I received the Testors Fiery Orange Extreme Lacquer paint for the VW body. Waiting on the metallic Blue paint for the chassis. Should have that after the holiday.

Received the metallic Blue paint. Sunday I painted the chassis frame Silver so that when I received the metallic Blue paint the chassis would be dry to paint. Tuesday afternoon I painted the chassis with one coat of the metallic Blue. Today the paint was dry enough to place the engine in the chassis and place the body on the chassis to get these few pictures. This shows the chassis painted Silver. Sorry for the poor lighting. This shows the frame painted metallic Blue. This shows the cockpit area from the front. Thanks for looking.

I've gotten some more done on my build. I got the chassis painted Metallic Blue over a silver base. I finished the seat and fire extinguishers and installed them. I started plumbing the engine fuel lines. Once the engine is permanently installed i will finish plumbing it. All that is left to install in the cockpit is the steering assembly. Then all I'll need to do is clean the body and interior sheet metal, base coat them either Silver or Gold and paint them. Here are some pics of what I have been doing... Thanks for looking.

Build update...installed the steering, engine, and plumbed it. It's not totally exact, but it's been a long time since I have done a build like this with all the added wiring and plumbing. As far as I'm concerned the chassis/engine is finished. Now it's on to prepping the body and getting some color on it. Here's a few pics of the chassis... Thanks for looking.

Tried my rattle can of primer today...it blobbed out and looked like it had water in it. Time for new primer.

Here are a few pics with the body mounted on the chassis. I did get a new can of primer paint and will be spraying the interior sheet metal and the body soon. Unfortunately, after that, I will be packing this build away as my roommate and I will be moving to a larger apartment next month. Thanks for looking.

Hey guys. Sorry for dropping off the forum for so long. The move went well. I got much of my modelling stuff moved to where I can work on my builds. Unfortunately the Summer heat and humidity here in SE PA was brutal and I have not done any painting. I hope to get back to it maybe this weekend if it stops raining.

Welcome back buddy! Glad to see you're back! I'm about to move myself, not looking forward to it much. Already had a new workbench delivered to the new place though - so I won't have to work off a McDonalds dinner tray any more Can't wait to see more on this when the weather allows!

Wow! I haven't updated this thread in a while. Since my last post in 2018, guess what?! MOVED again in August of 2019. I'm now living in State College, Pennsylvania, Home of Penn State University. My roommate is going to PSU working on their Phd. Anyways, haven't done anything with this build since, but I do have some good colors to paint the body with now. Once the weather here finally warms up,(snow squalls all day today), I plan on getting some color on the body. Then I can finally get this build finished. Until then...
