Used to be if I was willing to go to, say, $200, I had a chance of winning an auction on eBay. Looks like those days are over. I may be done building show rods

I've been saying the same thing - You used to be able to find junkyard gluebombs for less than 20 bucks , now just a chrome tree or a set of tires will go for that. Even the kits that weren't really popular like a Sand Shark are going for big bucks right now , and common kits that were reissued many times over like the Red Baron, Cherry Bomb and Beer Wagons are sky high. The only kits that aren't selling for big money are 1990s and up Nascar kits.

One seller had a bunch of sealed funny car kits from 60 and 70's listed last week. All sold in the $1000 range....he sold 60 kits.....$60,000 in one day.....a few days later he listed more......and at $1000 per kit maybe I need to sell some!

I'm sure glad I bought most of my 'Grail kits' when I had the chance.

I just searched ebay for Tijuana Taxi and Dragon Wagon kits. I figured there would be plenty of them. There were no reissue Taxi kits available and only one Dragon Wagon. The Dragon Wagon reissue ask price was $169.00. Aren't they still available at online Hobby Shops? If not I am glad I bought them when I did. I bought 4 each of the reissues. Wasn't sure why. I wanted them so bad prior to reissue, when they became available, I jumped all over them when I saw them at a model show. I think I got the Taxi's at $10 each (right before the show closed) and the Dragon Wagons for under $20 each.

Try then adding 50 dollars postage to Australia for a kit. I have even seen 80 dollars for postage to Oz.

I paid around that for many of my favorite rare kits. What I hate is that lately, an auction that starts at $169 will go up into the $3-400 dollar range. I only have a couple of 'Grail kits' left (ZZR, Charger III among them) and it looks like I'll never get 'em. 1st world problems

Same thing is happening to the ship models I built as a kid....when the Revell USS Kearsarge from 1961 is going for well north of $1000, I'm glad I got them when I did.....😎
