A "Score" for those unaware, is 20 years. That's how long "Showrods.Com" has been around. And to have the many 'departments' that Dave (Rallymaster) saw fit to include, shows some remarkable foresight.
I've been here a good many of those years but not as long as say Brandon or AJ, Paul Burke or Scott Colmer. No matter how 'great' a builder you are, I find I can often be humbled by many of the builds in the permanent Guest Gallery. BUT! I've seen ways to improve my own build practices and have learned patience is my number 1 tool.
We've seen the internet evolve in that score. What started as email 'clubs' turned into forums (such as this) and the instant gratification associated with the likes of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. BUT! Just as quickly as one's posts appear on those, they disappear almost just as quickly.
I know some builders can knock out a model in an afternoon while others take a considerable amount of time. (sometimes, years) I used to be one of those afternoon builders until I started seeing what other people were building.
And that brings me to the 700. There are now 700 built models in the Guest Gallery! 700 I'm not sure Brandon expected his very 1st entry into the gallery to be there 20 years later, but indeed, it is there for the entire world to view (maybe not some 3rd world countries)
We've lost a few builders over that time (Bob Paeth immediately comes to mind) as well as others. Some have disagreed with the guidelines in place and wanted to do things 'their way' Some felt a custom '56 Ford Vicky is a "show rod" and others felt Dave Deal's caricature kits were as well. (That led to the creation of the Car-Toons forum which everyone should also join) Seriously, click that. Some felt there should be a democracy in place here and a majority rule consensus. But the structure and guidelines Dave put into place keep us headed in the right direction. It's not a hardline to the 275 listed originally by Dave and there have been quite a few additions to the Gallery that are not on the list.
And I just want to remind everyone here that the "Coffin Corner" is an extension of Showrods.Com, a place for us to hang out and chew the fat. We get a lot of respect from the 'world' which can be seen by the minimal amount of spam we receive here.
My job for the last few years has been to keep the Gallery on topic and the aisles clean and neat. I'm proud to be a cog on the wheel here and hope to be for the next 'score and 700'
carry on.....
and for those that need guidance, here's a link

It is pretty amazing that Dave created Showrods.com 20 years ago and it's still alive and kicking ! I've been here for almost half of those years and want to give kudos to to you , Brandon , Dave , and everybody else involved for sticking to the spirit of the original Coffin Corner . The Coffin Corner II is still the best place on the web for those of us that love Show Rods ! And "THANK YOU" for the honor of being the 700th addition to the gallery !

Well, I remember (kind of) many many years ago, when I became a member of the original Coffin Corner. Back then my username was Tijuana Taxi. I remember that I was very happy to find the Show Rod Rally, and to find out, that there were a lot of show rod clowns, like myself. After joining the Rally, my show rod collection rapidly started to grow.... I was lucky enough to get hold on many rare show rods, mostly bought - quite expencive - as built up wrecks on Ebay. After renovating them, some of them got reissued shortly after. That was the case with the Bugaboo, Royal Rail, Depth Charger, and Tijuana Taxi. But I`m happy they got reissued, so that we all can buy as many as we would like. You can allways kitbash a show rod I remember the Name Game contest. That made me build 2 more or less scratchbuilt show rods, the Big Kahuna, and the Little Italy. That was a lot of fun, allthough I was a little dissapointed that none of the 2 names I submitted, were built, but of course there were a reason for that. Things can get in the way, for some of us. I also remember the big Photobucket scandal. When Photobuckets greed made them - with the flick of a switch - remove millions of pictures on millions of websites. That was bad. Very bad.... Well, now I use Fotki, its not free, but it works fine. But most of all, I remember all the time I spend in here, checking out everybodys unbelievable models. Enough models to spend hours and hours checking them out. I remember the friends I made in here, the community, the true show rod spirit that thrieve in here. I want to express a BIG thank you to Dave, for making all this possible. And I bet he did`nt expect the impact the Show Rod Rally got. Its still a very important place on the web for me. For the models and for the friends

Thank you Paul! Your shepherding of the Rally for me has been nothing short of fantastic. Had you not stepped up, I'm not sure with my intense career and family commitments that we'd still be here today. A bit more history on me and the Rally here might be appropriate.
Around 1997, a friend of mine came up to me at work (a top-level modeler) and handed me a reissue of the Li'l Coffin. He said these fateful words: "Here, perhaps this will get you back into modeling again." I built that kit (badly), my brain exploded in memories, and the rest is history.
It was the early days of Ebay and man it was wild with the bidding and all. Fortunately for me, I had enough discretionary income to bid up and win a lot of kits, all along researching and discussing with some of you via email, what kits qualify in my quest to collect "all" model show rods from the early 60s to the mid-70s.
With the internet taking off back then, I taught myself how to build websites, because it helped me advance my career. I decided to build a website to house all of my kits for the sole reason I started traveling so much in my job, I wanted a way to view them and enjoy them after a long day on the road. I had no aspirations that this would grow into a viewing forum with many hundreds of devotees who shared this passion or skill, art, and nostalgia.
Along the way, I befriended Tom Daniel, rebuilt his website, created a store on it, bought him a Macintosh computer, flew to Las Vegas (and later Arizona) to train him on it, and develop a great relationship. Sadly, that did not last as we had a falling out and are estranged today. No regrets here, though--it was a unique experience. Such is my personality: In for a dime, in for a dollar. Drive's my wife nuts when I decided I'm "all-in" on whatever I do.
My rekindled interest in car modeling led to the purchase of my 1973 Pontiac GTO in 2001. Which eventually led to the purchase of a 1972 Chevelle SS clone in 2003. Which eventually led to the purchase of a 1958 Chevy Impala in 2016. Which eventually led to the purchase of a 1967 Buick GS 400 here in 2021. (The Chevelle is gone today, sold in 2006). All four of these purchases involved no-ship, must-drive-it-home 2,000-mile adventures.
Happily, the heavy lifting of my career and child-raising is behind me. I tried to retire early (twice) but both times my boss made my job easier and finally got me off the road from 95% business travel to 5% business travel. I still have 2.5 years until retirement but am settled in my "final" home, with a basement, and a modeling area already claimed. I plan to start building again later this year. Like many of you, it will feel a bit strange to build kits with reading glasses on! What won't feel strange is to have 60s on 6 playing in the background.
I have a modest trailer home in a 55+ community in Mesa, AZ, (it needs a modeling area!) a big, comfortable shack here in Mequon, WI, two grandkids, and somehow managed to stay married to the same woman for 35 years and running. I sold off many of my kits along the way, bought some awesome sealed TD originals from John Greczula, became pretty much a vegan in 2015, lost 35 pounds in the process, never stopped working out, lost both my parents in the last decade and I'm sure like all of you now in your 60s like me, have endured a lot of other twists-and-turns in the past two decades of living.
Now off the road for work, I'm going to work my way back into the habit of getting on these forums and talk to Paul about what else we can do to enhance the Show Rod Rally experience. Thank you all for your passion for our unique hobby and your contributions to this shared experience.
--Dave the Rallymaster

Thanks to all for keeping this great place running all these years. I go back to about the start here.....but my original ID got buggered somehow.
And in the ultimate step from the day I got to sit in Boot Hill Express as a kid......I am now working on a 1/1 scale full size running showrod. Kinda full circle. Again.....Thanks

Wow, 20 years! Time flies. This site has been part of my life for many years. I haven't been as active lately. I plan to contribute more in the future. It's good to see Dave is going back to the hobby. I look forward to seeing the builds.

My first in person "showrod" was the King T at the Sacramento Autorama and as soon as I got home I had to draw it...but then made some changes to the design and the rest is history. Proud to be part of the ShowRod Community and thanks Paul for persevering and Dave for bringing me into the fold.

First, thanks to Paul and Dave for making this the best Showrod gathering spot in the world. And WOW its has been a long journey. I did not know I was an old-timer. How did that happen?
I remember the day I found the original Showrods site. Heaven! I wrote Dave to join. I thought he was also the Dave who did the awesome fantasy show rods. I learned that was Dave Marek who has since become a friend, even if communication is sporadic.
I think that eBay was just taking off and the Daniels reissues were sparse. so a TJ Taxi was a golden find. I tuned in every day for the update on Tim Nolan's Ghoul Bus. Other highlights were getting to meet Ira, Boom, Brandon, and Dave Skurvy. I made some friends and some went by the wayside as times changed. Still, lots of fun. After a couple years on the forum and I asked for a Klown name- I got Flounder. Perfect! I am still planning to finish my long stalled build off with Tim Nolan. Some things don't change. Back when I had more money to spare, I collected a few builds from some of the members here. I'll always keep those.
It's a bit quieter here (no more wars with the other site) but its still a regular visit. I am back writing for MCM again, but it may be a while before my articles show up. Summer is here and school is out, so I plan to get some building done.
Thanks for all the good times!
Scott

I have been into model building since 1967 when I was 10 - thats a half a score! Now I'm over 3 score and still building models. This site with Dave and Paul has been one of the best things to happen to my model building. I can't thank you guys enough for keeping this site up and running. The amount of talent here is awesome and I learned a lot from everyone. I have had many friends that I've traded or purchased parts from and ones that I have met at shows. I had been in a slump after the kids were born - not enough time, too much work and this site got me back into the game. I even had my son building. At that time I was just a lurker and wasn't a member. I am in the process of moving from NJ to Arizona and can't wait to get there to unpack all 20 large boxes of models, parts tools etc, set up my desk and start building again.
Once again - thanks Dave and Paul and everyone that helped make this site a great one!!!
