I liked the idea of the "Torpedo Jones" car from a year or two ago, so I decided to build my own version. Frame/suspension from the Fire Iron, engine from a '31 Bugatti, and tank from a Monogram sprint car: I'm thinking that it's the biggest boardtrack racer EVER. Whaddya think? Should I call it "Board-Buster?" "Timber-Trasher?" I'm planning to scratchbuild the cowl and hood... maybe the bellypan too, if I can't find a cylinder the right size to cut up. Hmmm...

Man you never cease to amaze me Dave! To come up with that out off the top of your head is awesome! I have to admit that there have been a few hot wheels that I've thought about kit bashing. Great resource for ideas.
By the way, how is the volksrod coming?

It's unseasonably hot out today, so I'm not finishing up the wiring on the V-rod yet... hopefully, it'll cool down soon. I want to fire it up and drive it over to Sam's (Freeman) shop so he can start on the body work soon. I think we're going to try smoothing the cowl and mounting a Hallock-style Vee'd windshield before we re-work the carson top. Maybe take a page from the So-Cal Plating Special from the late thirties, built by Kurtis and DuVall.
As far as this little boardtrack beastie goes, I've been knocking the idea around in my head for awhile. I just finally started cutting stuff up and gluing it together this weekend.

VictorVille Is this the The new Cactus Classic from San Diego don v Yeah - the Cactus Classic is on Nov. 19th in Victorville, CA. It's at the top of Cajon Pass on I-15... nice central location for all the Southwest modelbuilders. I just added the fingerguard and drilled the drive sprockets: I'm going to add a lot of rivet detail before this thing gets a final coat of paint.

Really nice Dave, you know my Mint Condition was inspired by a hot wheel. Plus you get to have legitimate (period correct) chain drive as well.
Isn't that one of my sanding sticks going to good use in the middle photo... Kewl !
;D !

Wow does this look super-kool! I loved that little Hot Wheel, and your build is just killer Scurv!! You've got the knack for some off-the-wall stuff man!! Speaking of Hot wheels inspirations, I saw a pretty good mix of the large diecast offerings by Hot Wheels this weekend, complete with spectraflame paint jobs, and they are pretty nice! The duece coupe is cool, but sits a bit awkward to me. They had a nice kandy purple one! I also got some inspiration from Paul Burkes Tiger Shark with the kandy hot pink paint. I am going to attempt to build one Hot Wheel-style (Python) using some redline tires, a blower motor, and maybe in kandy purple or blue. I have several of the original Hot Wheels, was always a favorite!! (one of the projects I am looking for redlines for...) I also am using the same basic idea on the AMT 65' Lincoln convertible. I brought it in to my lab today and redrilled the axle holes so it's totally in the weeds, and it's sitting on some nice MRC Cragar 5-spokes with skinny redline tires tucked in under it! I love these cars for some strange reason, they just look so dang kool! (I almost bought a real one a few years back, but needed too much rust fix...) I'm thinking a bright lime green or blue "spectraflame" paint scheme on this one. Just a quick simple build for fun! I can't beleive how fast you blew into this build of yours!! You must really be having a great time with it!! Can't wait to see it finished! by the way, did you ever get your decals I sent? (kidding.................................... )

Are you kiddin' Tim! Those mid 60s Lincolns are bad A$$! There was kid at school in my Trim & Upholstery class that worked on one in all of his classes. He put it on air in Chassis Fab, did a crap load of custom work in Street Rod and then did the seats for it in Trim & Upholstery. It was a really really dark purple and sitting on the chrome wheels in the weeds made it look really nasty! I think if I were going to do a real one, I'd paint it some cool green and call it the Crocodile or something. That's kind of what it reminds me of. They are just seriously cool!

Really looks good, Dave. I like the engine size vs car size in this build. Your knack for these things is astounding.

I'd also be interested in pics of the woody in the background That woody in the background is a throwaway - the paint crazed like mad when I shot the clearcoat, so I bought another kit and shot it instead (it was for a box-stock, same-kit club build). What you can't see in that pic is the flowering plants I ran like flames over the front fenders and hood, and the hawaiian-print firewall and engine block I did on the model. It's long gone now. I was just thinking about this old racecar build last night - I found some great scallop decals in an old racing plane kit I bought yesterday.
