A few more parts to paint then attach to the car, and that'll pretty much be it for this one! I thought there was a chance to getting her actually done today, but I should know better by now to think like that! Did some clay sculpture on the skeleton for ripped clothes and such, but it wasn't until afterwards (like when I was writing this!) that I thought "why didn't I just use a paper towel for that?" ... which I could still do anyway, and it'll probably look better. The clay won't be hard to knock off. The anchors (on the side towards the rear, and holding the lanterns) and the cannons turned out very nice using the Alclad Stainless Steel ... they don't show up very well in this pic, but when this is done I'll take some better shots. Whew! Time for bed ... too bad we were robbed of an hour today with Daylight Savings Time ... I could have used it!

Clay "clothes" came off fine ... needed a little tugging (clay still slightly soft) but that was it. Tissue paper (kleenix or toilet paper) should probably work a little better, using white glue with the tissue. I gotta admit, this kit has turned out to be a lot more fun than I first thought it would ... it looked goofy enough at first going by the box, but the more I work on it the more I'm really liking the end result. Next to go on the ship are pretty much the masts and sails ... and then using thread for rigging!! If I don't completely blow it on the last stages here, I'm now planning on bringing this to the GMO NNL in June to show it off, and give people a chance to see this kit ... my guess is this particular model doesn't show up too often at shows (could be wrong on that, of course). AMT's photo box on their Buyer's Choice release certainly wouldn't have inspired a lot of sales ... poor choices of color and a few parts were assembled wrong on the prototype! It looks like it was a rush job just to get a photo taken of it for the box.

A neat buildup of this kit was done in Amazing Vehicle Modeler, #2 I think. It was done as if the thing had come from the depths, sort of silt covered, with cannonball holes in the side, etc. That inspired me to buy the kit, though I haven't yet decided how to build it up.

Hey, Gwangiboy. Nice job on a cool kit. I am building one but it appears I need your help. Can you please scan the instruction sheet on this one? I lost mine.
I have never tried to use tissue for clothes but man, now that you brought it up, I think I want to give it a try. Do you think that paper mache thing would work on something like this? You've given me another inspired build.
On the seats, if you ever find a 62 catalina custom kit, it comes with dimaond tucked seats. Maybe you could cut and paste those on the next one you build.
Thanks and take care.

It IS a fun kit to build, and I think you could come up with all kinds of possibilities for variations on the pirate theme! I had a ball with mine! Aaaaaaar! ;D You can look at the whole thing in detail here: s92.photobucket.com/albums/l35/Finktim/Jolly%20Rodger/Avast!!!!!

Nearly finished painting the other parts that need to be attached ... pretty much what's left is gluing on the masts & sails now, and then rigging it with thread. Skeleton got some clothes, made with wetted toilet paper and then white glue brushed over that.
