I had a revell 67 chevelle pro street sitting on my shelf for awhile and I finally decided what to do with it. I thought I would make a ficticious pro street police car out of it. I did a simple metallic light blue and white paint job and then dug through my decal stash and combined several to come up with a unique design.
Well the paint laid down beautifully as did the decals. I then wanted to clear the car and upon setting it on my paint stand and while I was spraying the clear I watched the car body slide off the stand, hit the bucket it was set up on and then land upside down on my garage floor!!!! .............Damage was sticky gooey clear coat with rub marks, gouges, scrapes, and everything that was on the floor stuck to it!!!!!
After cooling off and letting the clear dry, I wet sanded the roof and trunk. I had to carefully mask off the rest of the car while trying not to damage the decals as there was no clear on the sides of the car before it fell off the stand. I had only made a pass and a half over the top when it fell. I reshot the paint on the roof and trunk.
Although it doesn't show up in the pictures, there are still imperfections in the roof and trunk, I ended up pulling the fender decals and pinstripe seperating the door line when I removed the masking tape. I then cleared the car and on top of everything else the decals bubbled for some unknown reason!!!
The little coffin was origionally painted in a two tone light frost blue metallic (to match the chassis) body with dark blue metallic fenders. the problem was that I shot the dark blue fenders first, letting that dry for 3 days then masked the fenders off and shot the rest of the car in the light frost blue. Because of a recent cold spell I had to use the salamander heater in my garage and I think the heat from the heater caused the paint and tape to warm up a little to much and when I pulled the tape off the fenders, the masking tape pattern was now embedded in the dark blue paint............so before I blew a gasket I just sanded out the dark blue fenders and decided to shoot the car a solid metallic blue. At least this paint job came out very nice, but I really wanted to do the two tone job on the coffin..................oh well.......................Fred
