Well, it all started off pretty good. The chrome came out OK. Not great, but good enough. The first parts in the Orange paint looked way cool, then things started to go wrong. First I handled the chassis before the clear was dry and dulled the clear. Then I had dirt in the paint for the cab and after sanding it out and respraying the area, I came up with a brown cab. Hosted on FotkiNext step - sand it down and start again, Hosted on FotkiHere us a peek at what the color looks like when done right. Tasty! Hosted on FotkiI did find some aluminum rod that is slightly larger than what I need for the headers. I am going to sand it down to the right diameter and use that. Here is the link to the story on the whole build. public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/on_the_bench-1/

I used Alclad, Chuck.
I have had beter results before.
I still want to try using a darkblue base. That may have the look I like.
Oh, I have been using pics of your Uncertain T as a reference. Great build!

I sympathize with your paint woes Scott. I have been totally frustrated lately, struggling with the darned humidity. I really have enjoyed watching your build progress, and I hit your site to look at it. Very inspiring!

Well Scott,
I don't know if this makes you feel better or not but I had to sand & re-paint my dragster twice. My issue's were with the decals & clear coat over them. I swear I'll NEVER use any decals other than Dkal Dan's again, it's just not worth it..!
Shame that you have sticky fingers & the color is nice but what's up with all that dirt Bro..? I mean I would have to work to get it that dirty ! Maybe we need to have a talk about paint someday as I still don't know what you use. I don't wish you bad, in fact I wish you all the best but beeee veeeery careful with that hand built body..! YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT AGAIN DO YOU..?
HIzoot the orange fingered klown ;D

Zooty Boot - Zooty boot-boo.
Well after a weekend of rethrashing I got the body back into white primer. I might have enough extreme thinner to respray, might not. Lets hope it gets here in time.
Nani offered to learn how to airbrush so she can paint when I am stuck at work. Guess we are on the road to a team build. You know the my give "us" an award just to watch HER go up for the trophy. Hmmmmm.
Got the front suspension on. Steering works fine.
When you want to watch the drags? This Sunday is out. I have to leave for business.
Later

For Those Who care...(Not to be a know-it-all : .....If you are Using either Automotive Lacquer, or Base-coat Systems... The Humidity prob, is easy to overcome.. ..If using Lacquer...when shooting the Clear (Lacquer ) , thin with Slow Thinner....If using Urethane Clear, over Base-coat, use Slow Reducer........Medium speed Reducers, are meant to use in "most typical conditions", and Fast, for colder/Dryer conditions...this is why I love this Stuff...I Can & Do Paint, in ANY Conditions !!!

Sorry to hear about the paint mishap!!!!............The colors look killer and this will be a beautiful build when finished!!!.............Just stop touching everything!!! ;D ;D ;D..................I know this sounds silly, but I had someone once tell me to check and see if paint is dry........just gently place your arm hairs (lightly) against the paint and if they don't feel sticky, you are good to go!!! (I told you it sounded silly, but it works!!)

Thank you so much for the details of the build. It really helps us out there learn new tricks. I have done test with Alclad useing black, dark, medium, and light blue as well as silver. As you can imagine each color gave brighter chome than the last. The silver base was very bright. But of greater importance is the gloss of the coat below the Alclad. The smoother and glossier the base the more chrome like the Alclad. I usually lay down some Testors Top Coat clear if possible because of its self leveling properties. This greatly boost the shine. Also the more coats of Alclad the less influence the base coat has. The problem with that is introducing a finish that is less smooth with each pass and affecting the shine. It does seem to be inconsistent though.
