I have to agree. I think we need to shelf this thing, hang on to our builds until such time as Dan gets whatever it is in order and returns, and go from there. I have to tell you, I should be on cloud 9 right now after returning from a week in Hawaii, doing a huge amount of business since I got back, and all of the other things I have to be thankful for.... Yet, I'd like to stick my head in a hole and hide for a while.... I just spent my whole weekend killing myself fixing everything that went wrong while I was gone....My pool was green, my yard was 2 ft.high, it hasn't stopped raining in almost 3 weeks after no rain for probably 4 months, now everything is flooded, molding, and leaking, including my roof! My wife is being a total pain in the ass and my kids aren't much better. Even my little granddaughter didn't want to go home tonight and hauled off and smacked me in the face as hard as she could! I'm tired, grouchy, and irratable to no end. I did sit down for a few minutes tonight and glue the body halves of the Pie Wagon together after taping off all of the interior. Time to start sanding on the seam, and get it ready for paint. Of course, after the first 10 minutes, my wife was back at the bottom of the stairs bitchin' about something else..... So, I can understand why Dan may be wanting to take a break from the whole scene for a bit......I'm almost there myself.....

I agree. . the contest is a GREAT idea and there is alot of time and effort into the builds started. I can wait till a deadline. . . whenever it is. . . I might have to show it to someone. . .in the mean time just because it is very funny! ! ! !
But the guys who didn't start or get their decals. . . I can see them wanting to move on. They all have their "NAMES". . . . .sooooooooo. . . . Maybe. . . .. they can build to their given name and just start designing and building. . . and see if the decals. . show or NOT? . . and if the decals don't fit or come in. . . there is always the plaque that could sit next to the build. And the idea for the name is still there and will be funny cool and creative!
I say. . . everyone BUILD ON. . set a new deadline to give time to those who didn't start. . .and then next year. . . .
LETS SET UP THREE contest like I suggested before where we have a third of the year to build for each contest. . . and then start a next new one. . and every one knows when the contest start and finish dates are. . and they can jump in ANY time. . .and then all we have to do is decide on a theme for three contests. . and what order they are in each year! . . . sound like a good idea. . .and it takes out one more variable and gives a steady time-line.

Hey all
I too have to put off or step away from the name game .... unless we wait A) for Dan to get back on his feet B) for anyone waiting for decals C) and we all seem to have alot of things going on with contests .
I have to move and will be packing up my builds. If I miss the contest I will build it and submit it to the group and to show off dans great decals. I may not win a prize . But all respects to Dan and I hope he's well.

I'm one of those anal builders that need everything in front of them before taking on the build.. I have all my parts placed in a box awaiting the release of my "secret" decals ... in my humble opinion the decal colors are important for selecting the color or colors for the build as well.. so I'm chillin' and waitin' for the decals... BTW, I like the word "challenge" vs. "contest" .... but that's just me !

I vote A. I'm not through with either build and I would like to have the decals. However, I have more concern for Dan than the contest. Has anyone talked with him lately?

But Brandon, that Switchers sedan/phaeton WAS just re-issued a couple of years ago. Cooler box art on that one, though.

I just wanna say a quick word about the "name game" contest .. While many of us have our decals on hold from Dkald, I've been offered a name by a fellow contestant who has more than one name and also has the decals for it as well!! I still plan on completing the original name game project when the decals arrive, but this fellow contestant (and friend) stepped up and offered so I could compete... how cool is that!!!! ? .. So now while awaiting the arrival of my "new" name I am brain storming like crazy ... Maybe if anyone else has decals for a second "name" they could offer them to someone who is still waiting it's just a thought !! Starry Eyes

Just wondering if anyone has heard from Dan? I've sent him a few emails, but no response. Is it safe to assume this contest is officially dead? Paul mentioned something about rolling the finished entries into the Show Rod contest, which is why I ask. If this be the case, that is really too bad as I thought it was a terrific idea. I was even supposed to be getting someones extra set of decals.

I saw him in October ... he called me up for a ride to one of the local model club meetings we go to.
He talked a little about what was going on ... the idiot seller from eBay who didn't pack the printer right and it arrived broken (the ink cartridge was left inside the printer which shattered inside as well) ... problems with paper curling ... he was hoping for one of the printers to be fixed by someone here locally, but he hadn't heard from that person in a while, so Dan was going to contact him to see what progress was being made.
He's been putting in an awful lot of hours working, and October was the first time he had part of a weekend off in a long time.
The next club meeting is this Saturday so I could get a call this week to pick him up ... otherwise I may have to track him down again at one of his jobs.
I never received my decals for the Name Game thing either. I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope we'll see them.

Paul mentioned something about rolling the finished entries into the Show Rod contest, which is why I ask. If this be the case, that is really too bad as I thought it was a terrific idea. I was even supposed to be getting someones extra set of decals. It is what it is and it ain't what it ain't.
It was a great idea that through nobody's fault when horribly awry.
It isn't fair to those who didn't get decals, and it isn't fair to those who did to drag it across New Years. I think it's best if we finish up however respectably we can, call it game over and move on.
The open showrod challenge means more now than ever. I have 2 I will be entering. One I started for the Custom Corvette Gasser Challenge Nolan (again!) started, though not intentionally, as well as a second box stock entry
Scotty Harrod has teased that the TD "UTC" that has almost as many urban myths surrounding it as Steve Scotts Uncertain T, may finally show it's tasty tips. (I've seen it, like most old timers here, but I'll bet most have forgotten it). I hope to high wherever you pray to, that I get some high quality maxi pics soon. (but, you know that Scotty's an elusive devil.
I got nuthin on the Holiday themed idea so far. Looks like more dust in the wind, but, hey.. who knows.. maybe a simple sticky thread will suffice
by the way, all the entries that come to me, will be forwarded on to Dave for Guest Gallery consideration after the challenge has run it's course. So take pictures and write up like it was going to end up in the Gallery.
that means... Try to overcome the urge to "fix" the pictures (reducing size, bit slicing, color correcting etc) I promise all your pictures will look as absolutely as best as possible when I'm done building the pages.
It's better to resize a picture DOWN to fit a page rather than trying to ENLARGE a small picture.
I got a big pipe running into the garage, and the OSC email is on and running 24/7
