Working my way around taking care of points that bothered me here and there on the front clip... I dug out an old Monogram Cord so I could compair the original design cues off of it. You can see a little red piece of the original hood sitting with it. Here's the shot from the other day, compair it with the reshaped hood... I reshaped the front of the hood by filing a bunch off the face and worked the louvers over too... The front fenders were still seperate parts that had a giant seam that had to be addressed better. So, I glued the fenders to the front pan section of the front clip. Once that was good and dry, I cut the whole unit free... Now, rather than a 3 piece front clip, I have a a 2 piece unit. This way, I'll be able to paint the front clip, then reassemble it. I also altered the lines on the pan, they flow with the body lines better now... Side view... Engine shot! Till next time!

Looks awesome, Mike! Great upgrades. Subtle but they do make a difference.

With the the front now well on the way to being "finished" I turned my attentions towards the taillights... The Cords of yore had taillights that looked like an afterthought at best, as you can see here... But, I also wanted design and styling to be purely "Cord" by inspiration at least. So I got out a drill and some larger round stock and set about setting a tunnel for the taillight lens'. Once dry I filed away the unwanted part... Some primer to see what needs filled better... A little clear red sprew will provide my lens, as seen here... That's the last of the major body/design features, now to start boiling it down to a fine finish! Till next time, keep those cards and letters coming!

WOW. . . .this is killer. . ..
I have one suggestion. I was looking at the side by side from new to old.
I looked at the windshields. . . . and thought what if you add the split windshield and little point in the middle coming onto the cowl? It might be really cool addition.
This is totally an award winner! Great idea!
God Bless Dan

More prime examples, this time, like and old black and white photo, more or less... I'm trying to get as much advanced as I can before the 26th... I go get cut that morning and won't have a left arm for several weeks afterward... I miss the old days when I just fell down and went 'boom', not "POP"! I've got a whole new appreciation of what you're going through Dave.

Wow, I'm three and a half years into this little project... Granted, I don't work on it a lot. At least in the real world. I think about how I'll do things over and over. Sometimes I have an idea tha seems nearly impossible, then I have to figure how to make it possible... The "wood" sections of the 'Cord of Wood' have been one of those areas I have been over-thinking for a couple years now. How to get the two tone wood I want, with nice grain and perfect seperation between the two wood tones? One way was something I'd seen some 20 plus years ago. I'm lucky enough to have a real live Great Salt Lake Champion as a local building 'hero', Fred Grumpky. He did a GSL winning woodie that I got to see in mid construction. I'm pretty sure Fred was using real wood and I'm using plastic, but the concept is the same, in order to get clean seperation lines, seperate them. The trick was, just getting the nerve to cut into, what is, for all intents a finished body in prime... But, no guts, no glory! I'll mount the pieces to a piece of thin sheet plastic so I can paint adjust the depth and the grain on and... Lots more parts to cut free or cut out if they are too small. Of course I have to be extra careful and really take my time as I cut it up, as parts are removed, it gets more fragile and it's not like I can go grab another body off the shelf. Yep, nothing like taking a multi-year project and adding yet another time consuming step... At this rate, I may have this finished up by, oh, I don't know, 2015?

Why not cover your little separate panels with real wood veneer?

Not in person, I did see a pics of a model done wit it and it looked great. You do need to do some airbrushed shadowing before putting down the decal to get that weathered look. I also watched a video in the decals somewhere. If I run across the build or the video about the decals, I'll post it here. You might want to search the site to see if they have a tutorial on them, it might be where I saw it. BTW, I love the Cord Woodie, it looks wild.

Was reviewing your build, and it seems like the Pyro/Lindberg body is a blend of the '36 model 810 (hood) and the stillborn prototype of the '38 model (transmission cover between the front fenders). Good to know, as my Monogram version is a '37 supercharged 812 model. I like the 810 hood better (no side pipes, etc.).

While researching this build I found out it's the supercharged versions have side pipes, and the normally aspirated engines did not. I like the look of the Cord without side pipes myself, as the COW shows.
