This has been under construction for some times now. A kustom Ford with low hardtop roof. I started with Lindberg´s 40 Coupe. Then I made model of new roof and copied it in styrene. And after a couple of test roofs I made a good one... And I glued that one... New lines... on tape. What do you think...

Great looking roof!!I think that the windowtemplate is positioned too low. It would look better if you raise it couple of millimeters in my opinion.

I am thinking personally, that the top of the side window should be as high as the windshield. But I must say, some great modeling there! Bondo master. Thats a ton of work there sanding sanding sanding and even more sanding! My hat is off to you! The vacuum forming it to create the new top. Now you get to scribe new door lines and the whole nine yards. Much more energy then I have I must honestly admit! Absolutly terrific! Jody

The top looks great, but why use the Lindberg '40? The AMT '40 is 100 times better.

The top looks great, but why use the Lindberg '40? The AMT '40 is 100 times better. And the Revell makes them both look like Palmer kits - what's your point? -DD

I did some sanding and used bodyfiller... and sanded... and sanded... And after the first primer it looked like this... not bad? Why Lindberg kit? Because... one guy had one for sale... Price was right... And then I had a bright idea: 40 pick up grille and side scoops. That almost destroyed the hood... I had a Mercury-look on my mind... I did not use vacuum to form that plastic sheet. Just only kitchen oven...

Well, looks pretty good for heat only!! If ya can do that, the formers not hard or exspensive to build!! LOL. Great job regardless! Jody

Very impressive! Primer made the difference, the lines are very clean. Jody's right, if you've got that far with just heat, putting a vacuum source under it isn't too hard at all. Got a shop vac and some peg board?

Dont need a shop vac. Any $5 yard sale vacuum, or even a tire pump from the vehicle can be transformed to suck and create the vacuum. I have a old toaster oven I picked up for $5. Now looking for the "vacuum" part. Once I have the basement done, I will set it up and start to try some simple vacuum forming! More for the slot car thing to start out with I think? Some bubble tops would be cool to do! Jody

I would go medium, inbetween the small and the large. Nice progress so far. Jody

I would make it half as wide as the top one but the same shape.....
I think a small window would be cool!

Hello Juhap! I am in awe of your Vacu-forming skills and envious that you have a vacuform, yes, well, anyhow I have to agree with the window line statement, the windshield and side windows look out of place. Perhaps a sun visor across the top of the windshield might help a bit there? And that rear window, wow, that is making me wonder as well, i have to go along with others on the middle choice, upside down, but, not as long ? You have your work "cut" out for you on this build dude. Good Luck and keep us posted with pics Great Work!!!! ;D

Sidewindow looks great now!! For the rearwindow I would try wide oval but low in height.

"...and envious that you have a vacuform."
No, I do not have a vacuform-thing. Just kitchen oven and selfmade forms.
A master and a frame made of plywood are enough to create simple parts like this chopped roof...

Here is a very simple version of "hot styrene" forming... Nice frogeyepanel for led lights... Never used this one, too ugly. ;D

It looks better now in primer. With sombreros and Monogram 40 pick up grille. I´d like Mercury more, but this is OK for me... It did take several weeks to fabricate this Lindberg/Monogram hood. Too much body filler, so it was soft for two weeks! And primer softened it more.. Rear tires came along with sombreros, too low... But front tires look much better. How about whitewalls?

Looks like a '40 Ford Standard coupe to me. In black primer, i was kinda diggin the blackwall tires - looked all-business - but with the metallic purple, it really needs some wide whitewalls.
