This may be a dumb question ,but I was wondering if the Monogram Sizzler dragster kit was ever reissued in any form ? While digging around in my junk boxes looking for some parts , I came across an old Bantam body from that kit . I've had this old body for over 35 years. I think its time I found it a chassis !

Pretty sure this has never seen the light of day since the original outing.
If I remember rightly the kit is actually slightly bigger than 1/24 so dropping the body onto a 1/24 FED chassis might look a bit odd.

I have the old chassis, engine, missing one rear tire, was actually considering restoring the railjob and make it like the famous version done in the 60's by a fella with the last name of Yont? See old Car Model and Model Car Science mags. I also have a couple of extra restorable Bantam bodies. Beware of the resin Bantam bodies shown online, they are tiny, I don't know what scale they are meant to be. I did make my own Bantam rail from parts from the old AMT Double dragster kit. You're right,
I believe it's 1/20th scale & they ran a real long run of that for the time. In other words the reissue was right after the 1st issue & nothing after that. My guess it that they hurt & broke the mold in production. You can find bits & pieces on evil bay.Hizoot

It sounds like this body may be an orphan for a long time! I had looked on Evilbay before, and only found one ,and it was in a very expensive lot of built kits Dave, you did a fantastic job on your Bantam .I like the fact that you had some in progress shots . My Bantam body was painted and decaled 40+ years ago, and then resprayed with sort of a clear green paint so the decals and inprefections show through . it gives the effect of a very old dragger , not what it was intended to look like I'm sure, but I've always thought it looked cool .

It was issued 2-3 times.
first issue was by it'self and second one was offered as a customizing kit (different box)....not sure of a 3rd if there was one.

Here's another variation. The actual model appears to be close to 1/25. And its made out of really cool blue plastic too.

The Chev Dragster model is a totally different kit, it is not a variation of the Sizzler at all The Chev Dragster doesn't even have a full chassis, it stops at the body. I have one of these too. It actually seems smaller than 1/24th too, more like 1/25

I would build one, but have not been looking very hard for one to be honest....one day I will look harder. ;D

Thats some cool box art ! That customizing dragster kit would have been a nice reissue, theres a lot of different combinations to build, and you'll always end up with a spare engine . I guess I'll keep poking around Ebay, maybe I'll get lucky and find a builder to restore .

I actually built my mint kit and assembled it with modelers putty instead of glue just in case I wanted to explore other building options down the road. Anyone have an extra decal sheet-copy-or good scan ? That's all I need to complete mine .

The only bits you'll find trickled into other kits is the Hemi engine that is found in the S'Cool Bus. Those engines share a good deal of the parts but not all of them. That's about the extent of what I've found from the time I've been looking.
As it has been said, the Chev Dragster is a totally different animal than the Sizzler. The Sizzler was pretty much a stand alone kit. The box which Bob shows was the original 6-in-1 kit style. Although the kit is the same in the second issue, the box is completely different and smaller at that. It depicts the Sizzler coming off the line with the front end in the air. There is another issue after which uses the same cover art but it's the white border style where the one before completely filled up the faces of the box. I've been meaning to get that one scanned for Bob but didn't get a chance after I did the other one for him. It is such a cool kit though, I really wish it would come back again.

and I suspect this is the same ......anyone know? Isn't the 49'er a 1/32 scale kit? I believe 49'er refers to the cost of the kit, $0.49 Marty

Great! Now I'm on a quest for Sizzler parts...Thanks Guys! That is a cool kit. I built the Chev Dragster (box art Dave posted) kit, very simple design, and not alot of detail. It did have a couple of decal options. I really like it though, box stock build. I have always thought it was smaller than 1/25.

I think I saw this kit on the bay yesterday, Is this the one that was molded in "blue" plastic, and the tires were blue plastic as well ?? ( no rubber tires ) I know it was smaller than 1/25th for sure.

I keep thinking little Hot Wheels cars that run on their own after getting juiced up when I see this name. Or maybe a steak house.
I had a complete set of original decals for this, but didn't know what I had ... so cut the sheet up and used them on a Lindberg '40 Ford. THEN afterwards I found out what I had. I have about 98% of the parts to make the Bantom body version -- when the day comes when I get around to starting it!
