My brother in law asked me to build a plane for someone who painted his daughter's pedal car like a woody. I said "Sure," then they showed me this guys web side. He is a professional military modeler. No way I am going to build in that genera for a noted pro. New plan. Build a Deals Wheel done up like a Woody to relate back to the original favor. Use the same paint too. Got the flat head ready. Hosted on FotkiGot the pipes made Hosted on FotkiPut it on a stand and made a spinning prop. Hosted on FotkiSo far, this has been a blast. I have not used a pair of tweezers yet and the glue is coming straight from the tube. Now, I need a little hawaiian girl head. It should be done in another week or so. Then back to the tiny stuff. Any updates? I love the Deal's Wheels kits and, based on your WIP/teaser photos, this looks like it's shaping up to be one killer custom!

Zombie - Updates soon. I wanted to have a good bit to post. More work than expected - as usual.
As for the rest of you Klowns - Re: The hawaiian girl head. ...SICK SICK SICK - I like it. Can't believe I missed that one! And my wife is Hawaiian!
The reason it's called the surfer girl is it's themed after my 1 year old hawaiian niece's pedal car painted like a woody. I'll be searching e-bay for a suitable head. ( Paul! ; ) !)

Made some progress and found myself with more work than expected. Here is the roof and rack. Still need flanges - NO BOLTS! It took FOREVER to scribe open that window. Hosted on FotkiNose piece. Think of a flying 49 Ford Woody wagon. The center piece is a pulley. Look for shapes -ala Skurvy. Hosted on FotkiHere's the problem. All that panel and rivet detail will be broken up by sanding and smoothing. Hosted on FotkiSolution - sand it flat and rescribe it. Hosted on FotkiHere I am practicing to make rivets. Heated stainless tube applied with just the right pressure. The swirl the tube in the mark a little after it is flattened. I'll use PE for the fasteners to avoid insanity. Hosted on FotkiLater Klowns.

I am sitting here looking at your rivet solution and pondering a how to I saw some time ago. Someone had used foil to do this with wich they glued on. They took a mechanical pencil and without the led poking out, they poked the foil. Then they pushed the led out to get the foil out of the hole of the tip. By doing this, it created a very tiny curved piece wich resembled a rivet. Someone else had chimed in and said that one could also use the aluminum duct tape so that it would be self adhesive. I have never tried it before myself (yet). But I am trying to imagine me doing your trick and I keep thinking about burned fingers and too large of a hole or a curved hole. LOL. But I know you are a much better modeler then I am!! So I eagerly wait to see how it comes out!! Jody

Didn't I see something here a while back about some military details that were "decal based", including rivets... Very cool build, by the way!

Why don't you drill holes and use straight pins heads. More realistic

Thanks for all the riveting ideas, Gents. I have always wanted to try the archer rivets, but they look like the are the domed type and the rivets I have seen out the window of sooooo many loooooooong flights have been flush. However you all did give me an idea on how I might accomplish a good flush rivet without having to melt plastic.. I'll let you all know how it works out. Flounder.

I made a rivet maker from a old clock. I used the sprocket filed it to a sharp point and atached it to an arm. Just roll rivets. Like a fabric cutter but serrated.

Being an aircraft mech by trade, you're correct about aircraft rivets being flush with the surface. But with this being a "cartoon" style build, go with something that has a little "relief", such as pin-heads for rivets. They'll look more in character with your build. Just a suggestion my friend. You still have a great looking build going there.

Seems rivets are a hot topic.
I am planning to try my rivets today.
It's a simple plan. Spread a thin, even layer of black enamel on a plate of glass, then take the same stainless tube and put the circle end in the paint. Then just apply it to clear decal sheet. Lay the decals on the painted plane and toss on a little clear. I'll post pics when I get it done.
If that does not work, then I'll start drilling.
Flounder.
