Just a quick update. I've made really good progress, but I want to show the dash because it took me a while to figure out how to make an engine turned surface. These are just samples of what I made as I got my tool and technique worked out. Hosted on FotkiNext post should be of completed project. Flounder

Wow, Scott! A fixture? I've always done that freehand... but I like to live dangerously.

Hey Dave,
I tried freehand, but could not keep the scuffing tool from wandering across the surface.
You are a better man than I.

Hey Dave, I tried freehand, but could not keep the scuffing tool from wandering across the surface. You are a better man than I. Flounder. Were you scuffing with power, or by hand? I just used an eraser-type "plug" cut out of a "rust eraser", which is an abrasive-infused rubber block for cleaning tools/swords/etc. and crimped it on the end of a dowel with a collet.

I glued a piece of 1800 cloth backed sand paper to the tip of a plastic rod. You can see it in the upper right. Then I moved the aluminum sheet in a pattern guided the pre-marked lines on the tool and the sheet. The scuffing was done by twirling the rod by hand.
I am thinking this may be gentle enough to use on baremetal foil.

Hopefully this kid won't grab this museum piece and fly it across the room Scott! Been watching your progress, simple build "gone bad" once again! LOL. Your detail and skill level are amazing as usual. Keep us posted as it progresses, love looking at it......

Just a teaser. I'm sooooooo close. Like the piston control stick? Took three pieces of K&S aluminum tubing and 10 minutes. Hopefully I'll be done within a few days. Flounder Hosted on Fotki

I was dubious about the light green color, but it's going to turn out wonderful! I'm very impressed!

Dumb question: what's the flathead engine out of; or where did you source it?
