With two months until October 31st, I was wondering, will there be an Eldon Titus Commemorative Cob Web Classic II this year?

I'd participate as well. Maybe something simple? I can't put pages together but there might be a simple alternative? No contest..just a showing?

This kind of stuff always goes astray, and loses all the fun real quickly, we've seen it happen time and time again..... enough said.
I think Elden will always be remembered here by all that knew him!!

Well I for one didn't cry about anything,
What "sucked" was putting in a voting system and prizes. Your just asking for trouble every time.
Why we all can't behave like adults, I don't know?
It should be no more than what we normally do for the "Completed Projects" section. Just something that would honor a former member here who was also a distinguished Showrod builder and model builder as well, who enjoyed this site very much, who passed away too young!
Your right Paul..it takes away the fun of it when you have to hear whining and griping. You do a lot of work to put up with crap like that.
It started out as an "unfinished projects build" and later was renamed in his behalf. The later intention to "build" in his style. It's the ONLY way I saw it or thought it was meant to be. I could give a rat's a$$ about money, accolades, prizes, or a trophy with his name misspelled on it.
but please lets not talk about what was in the past. Move on.
I say, if anybody else is interested...chime in,(not about last year but this current idea)

It doesn't have to be a contest, but for some reason whenever we've had a build-off in the past everyone gets all juiced about it at the beginning and then enthusiasm tapers off as the deadline draws near.
When Tim stepped up last year and announced cash prizes and trophies, everyone managed to complete their projects, with a total of 36 models completed. Look at how many models get completed for non-contest events. Maybe folks need the carrot dangling at the end to complete things, I dunno. I just know that if you want to see a lot of models completed, hold a contest. If you want to hear about all the models folks didn't have time to complete, have a group build. Just human nature I suppose.
I personally would build for it whether a contest or not, as I feel very strongly about keeping the memory of our esteemed member alive. I don't need a carrot in the form of a trophy or prize. So if a second Cobweb is to be held, I will participate. But...it should be decided soon.

Why not have it as a contest, with a display only category, and participant certificates for ALL those in the display category only?
I don't like contests either, however it's always neat to bring home some type of memento? A participant certificate would do that.
That way it allows more to participate. Cash prizes usually bring out the worst in people - anywhere.....

As nice of a thought as this is, I think it's just probably too late to start something up. I know it's 2 months practically, but from past experience, if folks don't have 4-6 months, nothing will get done.
The thought had crossed my mind a few months ago about doing this again, but the board has changed so much, and so many new people, I figured it was a disaster in the making. Don't get me wrong, with new faces comes new enthusiasm, but many are shy or don't think thier builds are good enough, so they won't participate. There was a time, not so many years ago, when we had dozens of "seasoned vets" who had been here for many years, eager to build for the fun of the challenge and FRIENDLY competition. I fear those days have passed, although they may come back in the future. In the meantime, it's good to see such a variety of builds on the board, and the comradery that men who play with plastic still seem to share for the most part.
As far as "Big E", he is unforgetable. I truly miss him. His neverending enthusiasm, love for showrods, both real and models, his encouraging attitude.....He is sorely missed by all he touched. Whenever any of us builds a showrod, it's a tribute to him! If and when you guys want to do a big buildoff, contest, whatever.....let me know, I'll be glad to help organize it again. I'm useless for the webpage stuff, but I still know how to start and promote a good contest!

All this time & you still need to get it right,
Tim no disrespect but you don't need to "promote" anything..! You don't need trophy's or banner's, buttons & bow's not even bragging rights or P.T. Barnum shouting HURRY<> HURRY limited time offer..! You don't even need Paul to set up a special web site...
All you need to do is simply post your favorite Kustom or showrod (old or new) on or B-4 Sat. 10/31/2009 in the Completed Projects section of this board to honor Elden's memory. It's as simple as that ! And no one will care if you're a seasoned PRO or if your fingers are still glued together.
When Scott, Dave & myself had the Rat Plastic Thrash, it was small but soooo much fun. Maybe some of you remember fun..? Ok I've said enough & it's only my humble opinion but Elden was my friend & yes I can spell his name right..!
Good luck,Hizoot

Thank you.
That's all we need... a "Sticky" (like the 1/32 Challenge that is up there) and let us contribute. Newbies especially. This is the perfect opportunity for you guys to get involved.
Elden had a Tomahawk in his logo for his Kustoms...it was meant for chopping things up and creating. If it's just ONE CHANGE you do to a build..IT"S YOUR DESIGN! ;D
So...don't be afraid to just post sumthin'..ya''all don't ever know who's watching. It's just a show of plastic!
It may be a bump in the road for our yearly show...., but at least theres somthing out there. Maybe a title like- "Elden Titus Cobweb Classic II" in the completed or progress(or both)...a quick build...like the old days.

Thanks, Paul. That is freakin' awesome. Seeing the builds reminded me of what an experience building those two limo's was. I was fresh back into model building, and had never bashed a model before, and of course it shows, but I didn't--and don't--care if they are cheesy. I had a blast....and Tim got his jollies seeing my "mud bucket", and me covered in bondo dust. One of the things that stands out to me was how freely the "pros"(Fred, Hizoot,Tim, etc) gave: their advice, parts, how to's, and even you--helping me out over the phone to get the photos uploaded. Man, that was a great time of camaraderie for me, and y'all sucked me right into the CC! Now if I could just find the time to build more.....

My form of "promotion" is generally just keeping people amped up, encouraging participation and posting. I only did what I did last time to maybe get more folks to join in. As pointed out earlier, it seemed to work....... On a personal note, I have a project half on the burner that I could probably get done by Halloween, which would fit right into the scheme of things. And Jeff, I have learned many things in the many years I have been here, specifically who my friends are.....

Let me start by apologizing to all for the misspelling of Elden, won't happen again. I'd like to see "something" in the way of a ETCCII, even if it is just a sticky and display. I felt last years was a great deal of fun, and it set me back on the building path I'd sorely missed for some 15 plus years. What ever/how ever, I'd like to see it go forward for years to come. My arrival here was not long before he passed, so I didn't have the privilege of really "knowing" him, only of him from print media. I wish I'd joined sooner, I can say that. So, I'll leave it to the 'old timers' to decide if/how this goes forward, I was just asking.

Mike,
I don't think anyone (myself included) was directing animosity solely at you for the misspelling of Elden's name. After all it's not a crime..! Elden was at one time a frequent guest of the corner & contributed much to the hobby.
You don't need to leave it to the "old timers" to start or say anything Mike. Just do it..! It truly is that simple, post something & you'll get a response. I'd like to see Jerry G. step up as he won an award from Elden's wife this year for his "Venomous" show car & Darryl Gassaway also made a Titus tribute as well called the Tilted T. Both are fine show rods & I bet you have a custom or 2 you can share..! Hizoot

It's all good Mike..nothing aimed at you or anybody in particular. The point of contention was that it doesn't take a lot to do something of consequence to keep a small memory alive. Right now there really is only one active moderator and he holds the keys. I can't make a "stickey". So "we" (the few who want to participate) are without.
And Tim....We know you didn't initiate "this" this year, but if you do have something on the burner that you would like to contribute...please. And like you said.."My form of "promotion" is generally just keeping people amped up, encouraging participation and posting." So why not now...it does not have to be huge. It's the "idea" kept alive.
This is all I will say on this because I knew him, and he was a humble and easy going guy and believe that he wouldn't want any of this. This is unlike me to get into semantics so take care fellow klowns and keep it fun. Now tear into some plastic!

I'm into posting a model, if this doesn't get too complicated. I can't guarantee I will, but it sounds Kool. You guys are gonna have to make a solid decision about this soon & officially announce this. The age old question : ? TO BE, ? -or- NOT TO BE ? LOL !! I DO NOT intend to insult ANYONE !! -but someone here is gonna have to decide to go forward with this and officially announce this thing, or say it's a no go. Am I right ?? .....sorry!
