That is FREAKIN' KOOL!!! Just one minor thing, you should have one hand on the steering wheel and one hand holding the side of the body! Marty

I went yesterday for the first time. It was a pretty cool show. I sat down and watched the cars cruise by for a while and got a little dizzy from the fumes, man was that great. I think I will try and hit this every year from now on.

No Al,
That's not the late Willy Borsch, to my knowledge that is Tom??? Marcellus who's owned 1/2 this car since day 1... The official name of the car is Marcellus & Borsch's Winged Express.
Scott,
Mrtc4w is right IF you're going to drive that car (even in the parking lot) you need to do the one handed thing. Plus your 7 sec. 200mph face is nice but sideways & in this photo as for once this car is pointed striaght... Better yet put some tools in the kids hands & do a pit crew theme.Hizoot PS - How did Mr. Jones treat you..?

Marty - You are sooo right. I wish I would have thought of the hand on the body. I was definitely thinking of that famous pic of Willy going wayyyyy sideways with the hides still burning away.
Mr. Marcellus (the other name on the car, and the guy sitting next to me) told me the story behind that pic. Apparently, Willy got the Winged Express straightened out and went on to beat the Tasca Ford in the other lane. Ford Motor Corporation had cameras down at the top end that captured the whole thing. But the Ford honchos were none too happy about seeing their boy beat so they buried the footage in an archive.
How about that?!
And yes, the Model contest was very well done. Mark and Lynn Jones put on a great show and were wonderful hosts. I pretty much did a dump and run, so I could go check out the bounty of wild rods. I came back in time for to awards and the chat with couple regulars.
The drive home was even fun. We had a blown Willys sitting to the left of us at and intersection, and I got to blow by a nosebleed 37 Chevy gasser on the freeway - in my 98 Honda!
Ya gotta love SoCal.

That is very cool Scott!!! The guy's "real" name is Al (Alvin) "mousie" Marcellus. Man, I wish I'd have known you were going to be that close to the guy, I would have sent you my Hotwheels 2 car set of the "Fuel Altereds" It has the Pure Hell, and Winged Express in it, and I have it signed by Rich Gausco, and would really love to get Al's signature too. Someday. What an honor to get to sit in it....WOW!!!
A little of Willies one handed antics.....

Hey John,
It weas just dumb luck that I met him. I had no idea that he or the W.E. would be there.
I'm going back next year. If I see him on the attractions, I'll let you know.
Flounder.

I'd heard something about there being a fake arm/hand for a period there... that it became such a staple that they made a fake attched to the car that could be flipped up, visible outside the car when he needed both hands to keep it under control. True? I dunno.

Yes Dave true,
But to my knowledge that was just for the funny car he drove for Revell. It was too far to reach out the door & legend has it that he hated driving that & needed both hands... Ironic that he kept the worlds wildest car on it's feet but could barely get the easier flopper down the track..!Hizoot
