Hey Guys, Here are some photos of my first attempt with a candy paint job and my fist attempt with a lace paint job. The paint isn't perfect as there is a run or two in the paint, there is a splotch or two as well. I'm happy with the results since I haven't used my airbrush much and this is my first try at doing a candy. Let me know what you think, good or bad. Any other tips tricks or suggestions? (How else am I supposed to learn, right? ) I still have some of the smaller parts to do the last few coats of blue clear to, then I Can spray everything with the Tamyia clear. There is going to be a lot of blue on this one. ;D without using the flash on the camera: DJ

Good first attempt!
Camera hint...when taking photos with decent natural light or overhead lighting, I always turn the flash off. This allows the lens to stay open and use the available light rather than adding artificial light from the flash. The end result is a clearer photo with better colour. For models, I use the close-up or macro setting and my tripod, when possible.

I did a lace job on the same model! Black & silver w/ candy green over it. Yours looks great. I do have a few tips though: 1) I used a bit of Elmer's Spray Adhesive on the lace which held it in place while I sprayed, it left no residue when removed. 2) Ask your wife's permission before you cut holes in her unmentionables for the lace!

jsut so I understand the lace paint step, you laid the lace down them sprayed the white over the removed? or what was the steps. it is a very interesting idea.

I think it looks good for your first job.. I went on a shopping spree to couple fabric stores looking for more to scale lace pattern.. Truth is the smallest patterns I found were in the young ladies undergarment section.. I kind of did a "drive by" first but plan on sending the wife on a mission if you know what I mean.. LOL ....

Starry Eyes, as you probably realized it is a lot cheaper to buy lace at Walmart or a discount store than to go to a fabric store cause the real lace can be very expensive for our purposes.

Expensive? You mean like when your wife says..'thats the not lace pattern I wear!'
You can use any kind of lace. Check out a dollhouse store as they have lace patterns in various scales. An arts&craft store would have patterns made for spraying also.

This is really intriging!
Very nice.
You could do something like this to seats I would think.
Dave
PS - You may want to stay out of the little girls lingerie department. You may have some 'splainin' to do.........

AHHHH!!! I dunno if I want to see anymore of your guys comments now. Little girllie panties and stuff.... eeeekkkkk! lol In a way I am now kicking myself for throwing out a lace corset that my ex girlfriend left behind. Then that expensive corset could have actually been used for something. ha ha ha Joestoy, the procedure for the lace paint is posted under this link: coffincorner.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=10988Thanks gearbuster for the tips on the paint. Groucho, I'll try to remember not to use the flash.. and experiment with the macro function on my camera. I still haven't taken it off the "Point and shoot" mode yet. ha ha ha I've finished up the the candy blue on the small parts I was originally going to paint in candy blue. I haven't done any clear coating yet. Now I am painting the interior (white and blue). I have no idea what colour to paint the dashboard yet: candy blue, white or blue. I'll post some more photos when I get more of the interior done.

Hey guys, Here's an update of the progress on this experiment.... I'm not to happy with how the seats have come out. They seem to be a little "artificial". Any suggestions on how to make the seats/ interior seem a little more realistic? Cheers, DJ

Pretty good for your first try. You could try some baby blue pearl on the white of the seats. It would be easy to clean up the lines then and kinda go with the roof?
