I haven't figured out where it's going, but the trip looks like it's going to be a blast. Outstanding work so far! BTW-Where did you pick up the decals for the Good Boots? Can't wait to see the "rest of the story."

Can't wait to see the "rest of the story." I agree Keith.. these are some tasty looking script for a Deal .. Maybe Mike will let us in on one of his best kept secrets ... ;D On the other hand, those tires and wheels look pretty small compared to that Penny in the back ground .... this is going to be interesting for sure .. You'd think, with all the time leading up to this Deal/Zing theme-test, I'd have messed with this old thing before now... It's that darn Bug I tell you! Anyway, felt inspired enough after seeing all the different Deal builds coming together, that I'd see what I could get done before the deadline... Whenever it is. Since this never really showed just what the "Better Deal" was/is, I guess nowed be a good time to show it again (Was shown unfinished in past years FWNR thread)... A Deals Wheels "Super Spert" funny car. What I've done lately is lob off the roll cage, spin it around and reattach it. This took away that crazy shape and gave it a nice swoopy one. With less forward cage, the body will hunker down better... Started making the sheetmetal funny car "interior" that was impossible before the roll cage twist. Firewall... Very much scratch (scrap?) built zoomies... Besides "fixing" the side body line, I'm converting it over to a 1970 Chevelle, just to make it different from the thousands of other "Super Spert" models we see here daily. Will I finish it in time? After two years, who cares?

I must say Mike, this is coming along as interestingly as I thought it would. I appreciate the thought you put into "fixing" some of the obvious little things Revell short cut on the model. It looks like it will be a spectacular build if you keep pushing for the "deadline". Keep going!

It looks great! I like the "hunkered down" look; I dug out some pics of the stock body position, and yours is a vast improvement.

Love the re-imagined scoop and inner structure! My first impression of your reversing of the cage made me think of a super-charged sand buggy. Maybe a DW Never Was Super Tow'd??? hmmm-mm, thanks: a prospective project since I can't seem to score an original Meyer's Tow'd

Awesome job there Mike!! I had thought about converting my deal's Chevelle into a '70. I own a 1/1 '70 SS 396 ht.! I can't wait to see how yours turns out! Love your fix for the roll cage too!

That roll cage mod was sheer genius. Makes the car work oodles better, on so many levels. Looks great, just in "chassis by itself" mode; but lets sheet metal inner body panels work ... but the thing I kept coming back to were those so-cool-looking spoked front wheels. They really set the car off, nicely; and give it a lot of attitude and personality. Mega Koolness!

I further modified the funny car chassis into a more believeable cartooon funny car chassis... Sheet metal... Ready for another test fit. I do a lot of test fitting. But this lead to a good look at the sides of the "Super Spurt" body too... Was there some sort of policy at Revell in the 70's that bodys should be asymmetrical? I had this problem with my Bug Rod, body lines that didn't match from side to side, bad. I was driving myself nuts trying to get the rear wheels to center up in the wheel openings and couldn't, granted, it's a cartoon car, I get that, but shouldn't the sides more or less match? Never mind the overt body lines that don't match, look at the wheel openings! E-freakin'-gad! So that took some work to correct. I chose to file off the wheel trim (Not all Chevelles had wheel trim) and reshaped the opening to, more or less, match. Now my wheels center up fine. With that done, I decided to funny car up the body some more. That means spoilers! Since it's a Deal inspired deal, the spoilers need to be a bit over sized... A trip the the aircraft graveyard netted some tail sectiony things. I'll leave this with a test fit of the first prime chassis... Till next time!

Scratch/bashed rear end... I didn't have the original kit rear end to start with so, I had to come up with a pumkin/rear end that had a cartoonish look. I think that one's from the "Li'L Stogie"... Wheelie bars and butterfly steering wheel are S'Cool Bus pieces. Gas pedal is carved from a radiator to get the textured surface. Here's the chassis mocked up again, thins time with the exhaust pipes in place. The ends are flared aluminium. I modified the body support too, a little easier tp use this way. A little closer view... A coat of primer on the modified body, now sporting 1970 Chevelle features... Ten days left to finish this one... Will I make it?

Hey! No fair mentioning deadlines! (Some of us definitely won't meet ours... sniff, sniff!) But definitely keep going! This one's just flat awesome-looking; and is hugely inspirational! So many things going right, that it's a major treat to see each in-progress step! (Thanks!) The only thing I'd fault you on (and it's a minor nit; not a huge thing) would be camera focus. Sometimes it's great, but sometimes it could be a little sharper. If it won't disturb your building pace to any great degree, one suggestion I'd make would be to take multiple images of the same "shot" ... and then, later, sort through each of them to see which is the best, overall. I got into the habit of doing that, with the sci-fi builds I work on for magazine publication. What I've found is that the automatic sensor-based settings on the little Fuji camera I use for in-progress shots varies just enough, in subtle ways, to make it worth my while to take more than one picture for each "set-up". I've found that even if you're using a tripod (to keep the camera steady) and using "macro" mode on a camera that really likes that mode, there's still enough of a difference between one shot and the next, of the same basic set-up (camera not moved; lighting not altered) that one or two images out of, say, every four shots taken will be significantly better than the others. Even just taking two images for each shot, gives choices. Just a thought; mind you. Don't let it slow down your pace of building or painting, on this fun model! -- Ward Shrake --

Thinking of large coins, I read yesterday a 4 metre replica of a £2 coin (featuring the Mary Rose) was placed on the spot where she sank.
The remains lifted a while ago, and are still being sprayed..
