Bob at Chrometech does a better than fantastic job replating parts. Bob Black did a "how to" on here awhile back showing how to prep, and tree your parts for plating. You might want to dig back a few pages.

You couldn't find a better guy to deal with or a finer end product!!! I snagged a couple of his kits (& I think he may have a bigger collection than Dave A. ;D.) off "The Bay" and when I responded as the winner, he told me "The chrome's not up to my standards, if you don't mind waiting a week or so, I'll do up the entire tree myself, no extra charge." Needless to say, I was MORE than happy to wait. I wound up with the shiniest chrome trees I've ever seen!!! YES! DEFINITELY! YOU'RE IN GOOD HANDS WITH BOB!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D On a related note, I saw a Dragula that he gold plated ;D ;D ;D!!! In-Freakin'-Credible!!! "Paulie"

Bob's customer service is just fine. I've dealt with him for many years. He once lost a grille he was plating for me and he made good on that.
However last few times I had parts plated I wasn't 100% happy. It seems that the clear coat he applies had some dust in it. Bob of course offered to replate them for free but since that involved unmounting and restripping and remounting all the parts I declined. I used the parts as they were. Since this happened about 3 times, next time I'll take my plating elsewhere. I'm ready to give Little Motor Kar Co. a try.
I know that I might be a bit anal but I also know that Bob did much better (or even perfect) job in the past so something must have happened in his production cycle to affect quality.

Bob's a great guy and does excellent work. I met him back in the mid 80's at Toledo. He's done a lot of plating for me and friends of mine and I don't know of anyone who wasn't satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

I have a friend that I have known 5 years. He has had countless racks done by both Bob and MotorKar.... he has has both PERFECT results from them....and also has had the same IMperfect results with dust from Both of them.... I have also had chrome in my posession done by both of them and I can't tell the difference. Just an FYI

And he's happy to deal with us overseas types as well!
Don't ask about gold plating prices though unless you're sitting down and have a stiff drink to hand. I don't blame Bob for that, it's the raw materials but I think I'll have to find another solution for some sorry looking Bathtub parts that need revitalising!

There is no "gold plating". He still vacuum-metalizes parts with aluminum (like for "chrome finish") then instead of spraying them with clear lacquer for protection, he sprays them with transparent yellow lacquer which gives the parts that "gold" or "brass" looking finish. That is how "gold" plating is done. I think he mentions this on his website. It is slightly more expansive because he has to do that part separately from the regular batch.

Bob is a great guy to use for chrome and it's as shiney as any I have ever seen. After cleaning your parts of seams and defects, polish with ever finer grits of sandpaper until you can get them to a high luster finish with polish. The slicker they are, the better the plating, because it will show "EVERY" imperfection. Attachments:

I think what he does is accumulate enough orders to run a batch in the vacuum chamber all at once. It's been a while since I used ChromeTech, but I recall that it took a while. I wouldn't start worrying just yet.

Sounds like Chrome Tech does a hell of a job for your long term projects, If you can handle the wait. But If you need it soon, you should find another solution.
Fair Enough!
