I wonder what will become of the glue bombs and junkers and parts stashes now that you can simply buy one for $20 or less?
I had some TJ Taxi parts that were good that I had saved, to fix glue bombs, but now it's not worth trying to straighten up a seat or a firewall. I'd just buy a new one...
What are YOUR plans for your old Rommel's Rod?

Funny you should ask. I have one on the bench that was a mild clean up and resto on an un-painted built-up. I'm going to finish it and display it. It had a few lost/broken parts I had been looking for that a few people have help me locate. Yes it's kind of disappointing in a way, as I have allot in it and a TT that have been sitting for resto. But I still love the old original stuff... Nothing like restoring an original kit.

I´m with you there Zombie.... Its a nice feeling to restore an old original model. I restored a Tijuana Taxi, and it was finished before the repops came out, but hey... I have an original one... Same story with 3 other rare show rods I bought for big bucks, and restored.... The Infini-T, the Royal Rail, and the Depth Charger.... And they all got repopped.... Well, too bad, but I have to be happy, that I have the originals, and I made them look good with a lot of work.... Don´t get me wrong, I´m happy that they are available for a decent price, but concidering how much I payed for the originals, its too bad... Now I just hope they ain´t gonne repop the Lil´ Roamin Chariot Just teasin´.... ;D

A similar situation happened to me when AMT reissued the Barris Surf Woody kit--I'd found an original kit, and had pieced together frames for two more (out of junked Horse Hide Haulers) and was planning to resin-cast extra basic bodies so I could build all three versions.
Then AMT reissued the kit and that took the wind out of my sails; why devote a lot of effort to casting pieces when the kit was available again? I bought a number of the reissued kits, and eventually gave the frames and the other HHH bits to a guy here on the boards.

Yeah - I'm with you guys.I have two incomplete Rommel's rods(both Fred and A.J. helped with a few parts)but they represent the thrill of tracking them down and acquiring them - you know the trophy after the kill. They'll always remind me of the excitement of finally getting them! Thanks Keith

Same with me , I found this site while trying to find a Street fighter to restore, and since them I've restored a Tijuana Taxi ,Dragon wagon ,Quicksilver, Sand crab , the Street Fighter as well as several of the Deal's wheels kits that were reissued . I was kind of bummed when these reissues were coming out, considering the time and money that when into restoring them, but I had a lot of fun bringing them back from the dead and like Keith said, the excitement of finally getting them

I have a few original kits [2 Sand Crabs a Pie Wagon, Street Fighter, etc] and could only dream of building the rest of these awesome kits again. Mainly due to my funds, of course. I will treasure my originals, and build my reissues.
We all found this site looking for info, parts, tips, and fellowship, which may have opened the eyes of the powers-that-be and led us to this awesome spate of reissues of our beloved showrods.
The shared experiences, information - and even some non-returnable kit donations! - have brought us to the new era. I'm thrilled to be a small part of it. Thank you all.
