I lusted after glue bombed hulks of the Lindberg Dodge L-700... I unsuccessfully over-bid on built ups and dreamily chased unbuilts that were scored by those with deeper pockets and more passion than I. It was a grail of mine, always out of reach. I was thrilled when they re-issued it and promptly bought one, with the crappy '40 Ford and warped flatbed trailer. I wished I had waited until they released just the cab... And when I finally had it in my hands, and was looking through the instructions, I just couldn't bring myself to build it. There is no spark... the doors are paper thin, and the rest is oddly tooled. It sits at the bottom of my stash, robbed of a few parts and mixed with some other rig stuff.. I'm sure I will build it one day, but for now... Maybe I'll pull it out and see if anything sparks my interest.

Ahh yes, its happened a few times for me too , I chased after the annual 73 Plymouth Duster kits for years, so I could build a repro of my car . I finally ended up with a couple of good builders, but like you said, no spark..maybe someday I'll get around to building one , the 1:1 Duster isn't going anywhere . Sometimes its like the Deep purple song says , "Its not the kill, its the thrill of the chase" !

Half my stash enters that realm, but then something twigs and they're saved from the block. Now, about that warped trailer, I hear tell, that it actually is fairly close to what an empty flatbed looks like. I've seen a few real ones and yeah, they have a hog back.... Does that make you feel better Brandon? ? ;D ;D ;D Lance

Yup, I couldn't agree with you more Brandon.........I had picked up a Testor's Dodge 700 partial build up at a model show about a month before Linberg issued the truck/trailer 40 ford combo. The built up I completed and it turned out great and I loved it. When I bought the Linberg combo (I actually bought two) and I didn't open them for a long time and when I finally did (I opened one) I was so put off by the translucent gray flimsy plastic that I lost all interest and I ended up selling both unbuilt kits on ebay.

i've been there many times myself brandon. I have many kits that i "had to have" and then never built them. mostly, i robbed those kits of parts to build something else. The bantam blast for example...is missing about 50% of it's parts, a cop out, missing about 30% of it's parts, a chuck wagon missing about 60% of it's parts, tony nancy 22 jr. double kit, missing about 30% of it's parts, a few 70 impala 3-n-1 kits, all missing rims and engines, and i have a few more kits like that. But, i constantly go back to them and find more parts that i can use on other builds.

I chased the Aurora Double T kit for years - partly because I loved the box art and partly because I already had the '34 companion piece and thought the T would be as good. Wrongo!
The stock version bears an uncanny resemblence to the AMT T but the custom version looks like it was designed by someone who had never seen a rod but looked at other manufacturer's kits and thought "The weirder the better".
A great piece for collectors but not for a builder.

I didn't like the plastic in the L-700 reissue either, but whether I build them right away or at all, has nothing to do with if I wanted it or not! I wasn't so upset with the L-700, but that former Palmer 40 Ford coupe is freakin horrible!

I used to have a tag line on my emails that read "be a man build a Palmer". . . . lol...

I completely understand Brandon !! , I must tell you this quick story that comes to mind about this subject. .... When I was like ( about ) 7-or-8 yrs old, -Dad let me pick-out a model at the store, I narrowed it down to just two models. ( you know, in the 70's so many choices back then ) The two were : 1- The '33 Willy's Malco Gasser, -or- 2- The LA Dart kit, I picked the Malco Gasser. Mann, I loved that one, but I forever lusted for that LA Dart, and of course, it was discontinued and I never saw it again. So for a whole lifetime I've wanted that one. Then a couple years ago, They re-issued it !! .... Hallelujah !! -"Had" to have it !! The only place I could find it, They wanted $28 dollars for it !!!!! .... but "F#@%" ...."I had to have it" , I was very excited about this. I tell you : -after opening the box on this thing, It was the most disappointing model I've ever bought in my life. It was so cheap, and ( I guess ) "toy like" -un-detailed .... I was just sick, and disgusted, paying that much for this. It sat around in my collection for about a year, then one day, I was talking with Art, ( BozoButt ) -he said he was wanting that kit, I told him that I thought it Sucked, and he could just "have It" .... and then I sent it to him for free ...! -AL
