One thing I found cool about the Fools with No rules contest is that I sort of inherited a ton of old parts from my buddy John, and some of them had me stumped. Through the contest, I began seeing bits and pieces on the box stockers that I had, and through car-cheology, I can deduce that John had built some rare kits. It was among these parts I pieced together the bed buggy... it was strewn throughout all the bins and boxes.
The contest was educational for me... I've discovered where many of my parts came from, Like the scuba and swimming stuff from the Blue Beetle and more.
Looking at the One Armed Bandit, I don't have the body, but I have bits and pieces that are similar, such as the headlights, wheels, exhaust pipes, the funky ribbed rear axle pieces (I used one on the front of my Show Plow dump truck) and the finned brake drums... was this kit based off of another? Like the chassis and stuff? Looking at it closely I may have a shifter and a dash panel, and the valve covers....

MPC was very famous for reusing the same chassis under several models. The Bed Buggy chassis is the exact same one used in the Barris T buggy. The chassis that is under the One Arm Bandit is shared with the Wilhelms Wonder, and the Ice cream truck too. There are many more MPC kits that were done that way over the years.

I agree with John, MPC did a lot of kits sharing parts. I think the One Armed Bandit may have shared some parts with several kits. What I'd like to know is, which kits came first, and which after? I'd sure like to know the dates of issue on many kits.

It was probably the Ice Cream truck.... I think I had a decal sheet to that floating around.

In the Gallery Dave has the Wild Dream listed as 1965, but this issue as the AMT double kit Wild Dream/Tognotti's T was done in 1964, then they were done in separate boxes under the MPC moniker as Wilhelm's Wonder, and Tognotti's T in 1965. The Ice Cream Truck was done in 1968, and the One Arm Bandit in 1972.

Yeah that is correct - here's a little trivia for you Also MPC's Barris Mail truck shares the fenders - chassis - bicycle wheel and tire with the '29 Ford woody/pick-up(now the AMT kit)and the wheels with the Wild dream/Wilhelm's wonder - Tires are from the Beverly hillbillies truck - hot rod version and others. Also I've noticed that George Barris loves to recycle him-self - and if you look at the full sized Ice cream truck you'll see that he must have dismantled the Wild dream to build it - and why he had to build a brand new Munster's Koack(although I believe an original survives in England) etc.... By the way - the chassis for Tognotti's King "T" is the same as Carl Casper's Paddy wagon and Chuck Miller's Fire truck/Outcast kits. Thanks Keith

Thanks for the info on the dates, John. I never really looked for the dates in the gallery, or on the boxes or instructions. I have those kits, both the two in one box and the separate ones. I always especially liked the separate issue of Wilhelm's Wonder, very cool box art.
Thanks for the added info, Keith. Even more kits sharing parts than I thought there were.
