Threw a different color primer on it to help cut the Monkee factor a little... I couln't find a set of headers that even started to come close to fitting, so I made my own! It's a bit snug, but everything fits. Lot's more going on here than what came in the box.... Control arms, steering box and shaft, master cylinder... little better than a solid metal axel and no detail what so ever, huh? Chassis is worked out front to back now, including a scratched exhaust from the scratched headers to the scratched tips. I don't have them pictured yet but it'll have cut out pipes for the side exits. The rear seats have been cut down a little and all four have been tidied up a bit. I've shaved a good deal of the tuck-n-roll away and I'll be making all new door panels for it. Things are coming together nicely indeed! Thoughts and comments welcomed!

I thought it would be silly to make a detailed underhood area you couldn't see so I made reverse hinges for the hood... You can see the side exit exhaust tubes in this shot (above) (below) Chassis in prime, exhaust crossover pipe and muffler hangers/locators... Air cleaners painted and Bare Metalled... What a profile!!! Rear 3/4... Front 3/4... As always... Till next time!

Made the side exit pipes... Rather than four small trumpet pipes per side, I'm going with two big barrel pipes on each side, almost a double barrel shotgun look... I used some round stock to beef up the windshield frame. This gave it more of the bulk it needed to look right and made a nice 'pocket' the windshield itself pops into perfectly, after trimming the glass to fix of course. I also drilled a set of alignment pin holes for the roof while I was at it. This made the frame extra sturdy too, which is a plus since I'd chopped it down by a quarter inch plus. I also added some underhood structure... I'll add a little more when I'm sure where I want it. Here are the alignment pins on the roof. Now I need to start on the interior bucket itself. Till next time!

Worked on the engine compartment some more. Added fenderwells from the Malibu, turned backwards. Finished building up the firewall too. Made the splitters for the side cut out exhaust along with some little things to act as actuators for the cut outs. Also built a radiator, front radiator support and bulkhead. One last view with everything stuffed in place...

Made a little progress... The engine compartment is now all boxed in. Alternator has a set of brackets. Power steering pump completes the accesories. Drilled the distributor for wires. I cut off the cast on valve cover breathers and replaced them with more realistic versions. The radiator has hoses (Need painted yet) and I've sort of switched induction system a little too. Bottom view. I liked what I had as induction, but it was a set of Ford Autolite "Cross Boss" carbs and air clearners, rightt down to the Ford logo. Very nice parts. Too nice to hack up, I'll save them for a more blue oval future. I switched to a set of standard Monogram Webber carbs as the engine would have come with. The air clears are made by cutting and combining 3 Monogran winged sprint air cleaners into one long unit, times two. Engine and chassis are getting close, body not far behind. Lots to do on the interior. Till next time!

Turned my attention to the tail section, I knew what I wanted to do, I just hadn't got around to it yet. Now I have. I made a pair of taillight buckets with "bulbs". They'll be painted silver before I seal them to the lens'. I'm using the kit lens but I'm turning them "ribs in", so they'll have a smooth surface that'll show the inner details. This meant I had to trim the lens' themselves down as they had a bevelled edge. Here you see the buckets, lens', license plate/backup light combo (The backup light is a clear piece from a Firebird, it says "PONTIAC" on it, not that anyone will ever really see it... Parts in place along with the exhaust tips. I have to fine sand and polish the lens', they aren't quite perfect, then again, no one was supposed to see THIS side of them. That's pretty close to finishing off the rear section. Now I guess I'll have to start working on the new door panels if I'm going to put this one on the shelf this year.

At last, I turn my attention towards the interior. The 'tuck-n-roll' had to go. Period perfect for a 60's Showrod but not quite what I had in mind for a 60's Showrod inspired 21st Century Pro Touring Pontiac... (No offence to the lovers of Tuck-n-Roll intended) First I moto-tooled away a good chunk of the tuck-n-roll till it was fairly flat. I started at the floor and added a carpet line first using round stock. Then using masking tape, I made a set of templates for the door panels and sidewalls... Then added an upper line... And an armrest or two... Then added a second, smaller upper line... A quick coat of primer to bring out the inconsistancies... More putty... And a different color prime, still some areas that need attention, but getting there! I'm planning on making a custom center console that will run all the way to the back seats still. The interior completes the major assemblies, now to go back over everything again and tighten it all up a little before final paint and finishing! Till next time!

About time I threw some paint at this ape... Testors Aztek Gold lacquer over with primer. If I'd have realized just how "yellow" it looks, I likely would have shot this on the "Stinger 'Cuda" months ago... But then I wouldn't have paint for a "Brass Monkey" now... I'm still gonna have to think of a color for the "S/C"...
