Well, I got transfered to the next town over. We sold out house in Corona CA and are looking in Riverside. It's time to pack. There's over 500 kits to put into boxes. Then there are the built ups too.
The house sold in a week! It helped that we were not upside down. We have to be out by 5/22. All the houses we like are short sells and those take an average of 6 months to get through escrow. So we have an apartment.
Not sure how much building or painting I'll be able to get done, but I'll bring my on the road work area.

Corona, huh? I used to have family there. The husband passed away so they all moved to Chino, CA. Good luck on your move!

Man, I hate moving!!! Good luck Scott. The last time I moved, I spent 5 1/2 weeks just getting my toys ready, but that made the rest of the house easy.... ;D

It's 6 years ago I left North Hollywood, CA. Riverside is pretty nice. Hope the place you get goes through escrow a lot quicker than 6 months, Scott. Good luck man. We'll be waiting for ya to come back.

WOW Scott . . . what a mess to deal with. . . packing. . .and sorting through everything you own! But it is good your house sold so fast! Praise God! . . .and getting an apartment. . . is a good thing because you are not so rushed to find a great house with an in-law apartment for your toy room! I'm sure there are plenty of guys here. . . who would love to lighten your load . . . or . . . . store your kits for you! ;D Let us know what you find! A new adventure! GB barten

The average family fits in the front half of a moving van, last time I moved it took 2 1/2 moving vans, with 22 more years of accumulating on top of that, just thinking of YOUR move is traumatic enough!

Have a good move! What is the best way to pack up built models anyway? There was a thread a long time ago about this, but I can't find it.

WOW! Thanks for all the well wishes and empathy!
The built models are packed in flat, wide boxes with sturdy sides. They start on a soft surface and then they are gently surrounded with bits of torn cloth and bubble wrap until they are each in a little cocoon. Then more padding is laid on top and the pointy parts like the Red Baron spike have extra padding built up around them. A last layer goes on, the lid is taped shut, and the box is labeled as "Fragile!!! Do not stack on! Hand appendectomy follows improper care."
As for the kits there are two sources for boxes. 1) Your local hobby shop. What comes out can go back in. 2) Your local florist. That's right. They receive flowers in long boxes about 2' X 3' X 4' that are lined with some waterproof stuff. Just ask your friendly florist when the flowers arrive and be there to collect the empty boxes. I'll be picking up mine on Tuesday.
I'll post some pics for reference.
