I've noticed an odd occurance that's clearly been going on for decades now. Why are automatic transmissions such a rare item in the scale plastic world? It's like every car ever made came with stick shift for crying out loud! Even cars that from the interior clearly depict an automatic, you know, no clutch, single wide brake peddle, long straight narrow shifter gates, still have a freaking four speed hung underneath! Huh? Except old funny cars. They got automatics. What's up with this??? Are 4 speeds just easier to tool or what??? I like rowing a car around as much as the next guy but come on, some things call for a slush box!

I'll bet it's because these molds are already in place and no one really notices the differences. Saves the manufacturers time and $$$.

Mike does have a point though - kit has a HEMI? then you get a four speed - even though 727s were available. I like the kits that give you the option, a great way to get extras for the parts box.
