I wasn't going to post this, but since I've got so many good friends on here I will make a quick one.
Saturday morning at 6am, my father literally fell over dead. My 73 yr. old Mom, who has no knowledge of CPR or any medical knowlege, called 911, and was walked thru CPR methods. My Dad turned black, no pulse, no heartbeat. She worked on him until Evac arrived and began trying to revive him. When I got there, she told me she was quite sure my Dad was dead. We rushed to emergency to find out he had coded 3 times en-route to the hospital, but amazingly, he was alive and barely breathing. My Mom's efforts had saved him.
He is still in critical condition in intensive care, on a ventilator. He has responded to some stimulus, opened his eyes and looked at us, and yesterday squeezed my Moms hand when she was talking to him. His kidneys are still a big issue as they suffered some damage as well as his liver. He was actually "down" for almost 45 minutes, so this is all typical. He has amazed the doctors and staff so far, they told me last night he has progressed more in 48 hrs. than most people in his condition do in a week. All of the his tests have come back with positive results, it looks like he doesn't have any brain damage which was another huge concern. I am just amazed.
I will tell you all, please learn CPR if you haven't already. It works, and it saves lives. I also strongly believe in the power of hope and prayer, and he's getting lot's of that as well. The care and the expertise of the doctors and staff tending to him has been incredible. They are so positive, and so knowledgable it's incredible. I also believe he and my Moms love for each other has helped him as well. I've been telling him (I know he can hear me) how my Mom saved him, and her telling him over and over how much she loves him has gotten some type of response from him every time. The got married New Years Eve, 1955. 55 years this year, and they love each other more than you can possibly imagine. It's an unseen force that keeps them going, just incredible. Please remember my Dad in your prayers. I'll let you know how he is doing soon. His survival is still probably 50-50 because he has so many things wrong with him at this point. Thanks guys for all of the years you have been such good friends, I'll be back around when I can! Tim
Oh! Also keep Chuck Darnell's step-daughter in your thoughts and prayers! She is undergoing cancer surgery today as well!

Tim, in 1991, three days after my mother retired, my father dropped dead of a heart attack. They were at our mall exercise walking, and no one knew CPR. Your mom did save his life and I encourage all of you to learn CPR. It's very simple and I have been Red Cross certified to do CPR since 1994. Tim, my prayers are with you, your family, and Chuck and his family. Please keep us posted as time allows.

Real quick. 8am Wednesday they will turn off the vent and the sedatives on my Dad. He made remarkable improvements all day today. The doctors are calling him a living miracle. At 9 am if he is looking capable, they will remove the vent and see how he does completely on his own. His brother got in today and was with him, he held our hands and managed to squeeze them, and looked at us intently. He is fighting the vent tube, gagging a lot, so I know he wants it out of there. He shed a few tears looking at my Mom. I know how he is, he's probably more worried about her than himself as out of it as he is. Thanks for the kind words all of you. I guess we all will have these stories in the years to come, doesn't make it any easier on the soul. Rob Riley, I have thought about you every day old friend. I look at my own son and I think of you and get choked up. My thoughts are still with you as well. YES, CPR please all of you!

Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and words! Vent is out, he is talking (in a whisper), and they stood him up on a walker last night! Amazing! He is a bit confused still, drugs will take a few days to leave his system, but he may have some bit of brain damage. He did know all of his family members last night, and was able to answer questions from the doctors and nurses. I'm just glad to have him back for a while longer! Today they will start looking at his heart for damage, most likely a cath in his near future. Kidneys are still an issue, they took a pretty bad hit, may have to have some diolosis, but not for sure yet. Again, thanks for all the kind thoughts and prayers! Tim

Another quickie update. Man I'm beat. My MOM ended up in the ER this morning!! She collapsed in my Dads room first thing this morn, low blood pressure/sugar and fatigue. Geez this has been a bad week!!! She is doing OK, still shakey and week but home resting, my daughter is staying with her tonight and my uncle will be back tomorrow to look out for her as well.
Dad showed some improvement today. His brain functions are still not normal, but he is starting to answer questions legitimately and clearly. He totally fed himself tonight, and ate like he had never seen food! When I was leaving he gave me a big hug and kiss, and asked me if we were coming back tomorrow! I know that sounds like no big deal, but believe me, it is!!!! Last night he was trying to rip the bed apart, and endlessly counting on his fingers!!! He had tactile fixation and was just going crazy! We had a great nurse, who got the OK to give him some minimal sedation, so he slept all night. He had not slept more than a few hrs. total in 5 days!!!!! He was like a totally different patient this morning! Thanks for all the kindness and prayers. You guys are great friends.

I'm so glad to hear your Dad has improved so wonderfully! He sounds like a real trooper! Their love is admirable and enviable, I'm sure they get strength from eachother because of it. You hang in there too buddy, try to get some rest, even if you're holding dads hand while yer both napping. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I had another emergency and I was in the hospital all last week.
