I started this one back in the middle of May, but took most of the summer off from building, just too hot for me this year. Got back to it and finished it up.
This kit came out in just these two issues, has never been repopped. It's the same kit, with slightly different decals. I built the One-Arm Bandit for our last contest, because it was a rare kit. This one is also somewhat rare, but I decided to build it primarily because, in all my years of building, and the different model sites I'm a member of, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THESE BUILT! So, I decided to build one!
There are a few options. Internally mounted/tail end mounted gas tank ( I decided to put it inside), lanterns/no lanterns (the latter), and you can build it so the body flips open. Well, the body is multi-piece and I didn't like the thought of all those seams breaking up the body lines, and besides, there's not much to the interior to see, anyway. So I glued the body pretty much into a one-piece, filled and sanded the seams- much better, I thought. Decals were old, but decal film and Solvaset took care of that. The glass was a little scratched from sliding around inside the box for decades, so I dipped the glass in Future, came out great. I had to paint this twice, because after the first time, somehow I got moisture trapped under the gloss coat; also ruined a decal after it was on, so I ended up sanding it down and starting over. I think it came out pretty well in spite of the headaches!
Paint is Boyd Purple Pearl, with the radiator shell in Lime Gold.
