the 57 outcast sealed usually goes for 150.00 . I bought a 2 sealed wildfire kits on ebay only going for 40.00. a piece, but that was 6 years ago. The wildfire version is getting harder to find. The outcast has been popping up on ebay a lot more than the Wildfire versionr for the past couple of years now.

I have an outcast I am going to sell and was afraid I might have paid too much.

Just a note to add...the Outcast is a TD kit and was the first issue as well. The wildfire I believe would have been second also parralleled with one that I think was called the 57 chevy funny car or something like that. It was also red on the box. The Plumb Crazy is the same kit but it has some subtle changes to the body mold. If I remember correctly the rear spoilers were changed up. But overall that was the sequence of releases. The Outcast used to be difficult and semi expensive to get, the Wildfire seems to have changed places with it somewhat. The generic 57 I see even less than either of the other 2 kits. The Plum Crazy I don't really follow much so I don't know where it's at these days.
I didn't really say much that anyone else didn't but I hope it helps some Bob.

AJ - is this kit a TD kit by chance? It's a variation of the Cop Out which was a TD kit of course. Tom never mentioned whether he had anything to do with any of the rereleases say in the way of decals and such. I know on some he did but can't think that it was documented anywhere.

So, and I'm thinking in context for our contest... If it started out as the Cop Out, it is a TD-based design. If you kitbashed a Cop Out you wouldn't know if you used a real Cop Out or this kit. Like-wise with the re-releases of the Roth kits that were repackaged. I'd still consider them a Roth car, even if built box stock... Thoughts?

I don't see what the problem would be in using a kit that originated as a TD kit. I had been thinking about that in a reverse context the other day when I seen the Starbird '55 Chevy build. Since it was the basis of what became the Badman I wondered why it couldn't be used.
Then again, I wasn't sure how much my opinion mattered when it came to contests anyway...LOL!

Well, sometimes I have to call on our resident "self-proclaimed know it all" when I am unsure. The only dumb question is the one not asked... Thanks for your input.

Well, technically, the Cop Out started out as the Mongoose funny car, but the Cop Out was the second version, and is also the currently (or most recently) available version, so....
Bob! Any chance that you could separate and enlarge that picture of the Wildfire box from the eBay listing and post it here? I can't do that with my phone, and the picture is pretty small on here. Thanks if you can.
The Outcast came out in 1973. In 1975, it was reissued in red with the Wildfire decals. Monogram's other funny cars were also reissued in '75 as Duster's Last Stand (Mongoose/Cop Out Duster), Great White Cuda (Snake) and Hornet (Troublemaker El Camino). All four had the dragstrip stands background on the boxes like the Wildfire kit shown. Then in '77 they were all reissued again with different decals; the '57 was still red like the Wildfire, but had nice black/yellow/magenta stripes. The box art for the '77 issues was the standard Monogram white background with a built model. The Plum Crazy kit from the '80s is the same as the '70a issues except that the dual stand-up rear spoilers were removed and an "aluminum" wing was added between the fins. The glass was also smoke tinted, but I don't know if that was the first issue for tinted glass. I've got a couple built Outcasts and one built Wildfire that all have clear glass.

Brian, here´s the picture of the box I had the other red (no name) edition of this FC, and I always loved it. I still have the body somewhere, and I also have another complete object that needs some work. I think this is my favorite funny car - along wit the Peanut one ;D

Ah, thanks, Kim! I've been wanting to see that box lately. I remembered seeing that kit in a hobby shop in the late '70s, but I didn't remember what it was called. After seeing an old built Wildfire on eBay a while back, I figured that must have been it. I had remembered it being darker red or pinkish - like the Pie Wagon - but of course it was a long time ago. I remember not liking it back then, but I think it's (the TD '57 funny car in all incarnations) really cool.

I have owned several versions of each 57 F/C kit and the only one that ever had tinted /smoked glass was the P/C version of it. Not saying it has never been used in any other one just that I have never seen it used in the ones I've owned.

Well, about the "No name" issue of the ´57 FC, I found this old picture from december ´78, and here you can see how it looked. It is unpainted. I still have the body from this one somewhere, but the front is damaged. Gotta see if I can save it some day...

..... I think I kinda remember this version now Kim, -thanks for showing the photo. I think also, the "Wild Fire" version has now become one of my "grail" kits, since I had one when I was a kid, and how "rare" they seem to be now. ........ ?anybody got one for sell ?? ;D -here's my "Dusters Last Stand" I got from AJ, about a year ago. -one of my absolute favorites. When I was a kid, I built the Wild Fire and then the Dusters Last Stand, right after that, and displayed them together. It was KooL ! ! -AL

The reason for the high price? Sometimes I get on eBay when I am drunk and I buy stupid things but I have not gone THAT crazy yet! Maybe someone should start a thread about stuff we "accidentally" buy?

LOL @ Dave! ^^ ;D Al, the Duster's Last Stand was one of the first glue kits I built, right after the Desperado El Camino f/c that's also in Kin's photo, on the other side of the Cop Out. I also built the Corvette SS and "Black Gold" Chevy van he's got in there. If memory serves, I built the El Camino in ONE day. I tool my time on the Duster, and built it over TWO days. Neither of them had any paint and they were glued together with the "sniff-proof" Testors glue. Any time I smell artificially orange/lemon-scented products, it makes me think of building models back in the '70s. Of course, they came apart easily when I later cannibalized them. I saw a sealed Duster's Last Stand at the NNL West last year. I didn't even ask about it - just stared at the box for a minute. My money was gone for the day, and I had a feeling it would have been steeper than I'd have been willing to pay. Besides, if I can scare up the decals, I've got spare Duster f/c kits. Brian
