12 or 13, I think (a little over 20 years ago). I had done a couple snap-tites here and there before that, but that's when I made my first glue kit. I had a lot to learn about patience, and letting the glue / paint dry before messing around with things...

My first model was the Apollo Lunar Lander in 1969, I was 12. I got it from an offer in a National Geographic magazine. Then my parents bought my brother a gorilla model and me an elephant model.......then I discovered Tom Daniel......and that was it!

I was 4 or maybe 5 when I got to glue a simple model airplane together. After I'd proved I could do it to my mom and dad, I was alowed to build a more "complex' model car. My older (8 years) brother liked the 'Gangbusters' kits when they first came out and I had been watching him build those when I said I wanted to also. My dad was the one who declared I had to start with planes, I'm not sure why, I didn't love planes and nether did he... Anyway, that was the start of a lifelong love of styrene!

Must have been 9 or 10 (yeah, around 1968). I think the first one was one of those Navy ships with the electric motor in it. I remember it cruising around our 3 foot deep pool before it listed and sank. There was a local market/store nearby that had kits that always seemed to be missing pieces. My first self-launched purchases were some Palmers (a Mustang?) from a neighborhood drugstore (never could get those body side panels to line up and stay!)

I started modeling when I was five' my first model was a corvette with a clear top if I remember right. that was back in 1963 1964. I built the visible engine & chassis' then a couple of years later blew it apart with a b.b. gun. I can still kick myself in the butt for that one. Have a Happy Easter. Dennis

I was about 6 or 7. Started with airplanes, plastic and wood ones then ships and tanks and Hudson Miniatures, Ace, and Revell Highway Pioneers. The first decent car kits I built were the Club de Mer and Futura.

WOW !! First started . . . . . around six or seven, used to spend my summer with my Grandma My Auntie would take us to Galion to the Rexell Drug Store and get me 1/32 scale kits to build. around eight or nine my Dad and Mom would take us kids to the Zayers in Mansfield for model kits, I believe the first "adult" kit was Tom Daniels "Bad Medicine." then at ten, We moved to Pa. and I got into the MPC and Revell kits that lasted a year or two then it was 1/72 Military and HO trains. about five years ago, I got back into building, of the five hundred plus, I have about one hundred (+ or -) finished.

I was six and recovering from a tonsillectomy. I got a Ton Daniel 1/32 Pinto Funny Car. I think it was the Pinto, it may have been the Mustang II F/C ;D I quit building in 9th grade when I bought my 1:1 67 Mustang coupe. I cranked back up around 1999-2000.

I started when I was 10 years old. My Dad had always built models. When I turned 10 he would take us to Toys "R" Us and we would pick out a model every week. I think my first builds were the Lil Coffin and Boot Hill. That was 28 years ago. 1983...... Ken...

AAAAHHHHHHHHHH... man between that and "good" model glue .. huh? oh .. yeah .. like I said I was 8 or 9 and all I knew was it looked like a lot of fun to paint and glue those little cars together .. here I am 48 years later still doing the same thing...

Then I discovered Tom Daniels.... Been into showrods eversince, and still is....

I built my first kit when I was 4. But I didn't really get into building model kits until I was around 13. like so many others I started with show rods. but branched out to other kits as I got more into the hobby.

I started building aaround 1969 -1970 ,when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I remember building ( and only in the sense of the word) a Rommels Rod and then a Moon Mixer . Some other early ones were a 1971 Monte Carlo and a 70 Hornet funny car. Later on my mom signed me up for the model of the month club and I got all sorts of kits, which was cool because I couldn't afford t get then at the store , but you never knew what you would get from month to month. Usually it was some old leftover Aurora kits, but I did get a Deals Wheels Van once. Some of the kits I built are still covered in dust in my parents basement !

I started, probably, when I was, I'm gonna say, 7 or 8 which would have been 1966-67. My first kit was an Aurora F4-D Skyray airplane, one of the ones with the decal outlines molded onto the surfaces of the kit. My first car kit was the Monogram Slingshot Dragster. That was a Christmas present. Plus there were all of the long-box Aurora Monsters and the like. Mose were bought at a Haag Drug Store nearby, it's a CVS now, that had a GREAT hobby department even including a slot racing track, I don't remember if it was 1/24th or 1/32nd (probably this scale). This was fantastic in a DRUG store! I wanna go back!!

My first memory of a model was of an open wheel racer. It was one that came in the low flat boxes. This was about 1964 when I was 4 or maybe 5 years old. I am sure it was one of my older brother's models. I remember wanting to build it but there was no glue. I ran around the house looking for something I could substitute for glue. I tried mashing up some crayons but it didn't work. Go figure. My next memory was several years later when I was about 8. My older brother had built the "Pie Wagon". This was when you could buy models and paint from the 7-11 store. Boy, those were the days. The first model I remember buying for myself was the "Dragon Wagon"! This is why that model has been so special to me all these years. I was 8 and this model was absolutely COOL! Are you kidding me, big fat tires, super smooth looking engine, round windshield and a dragon. Tom Daniel knew what he was doing when he created that one...what a classic. I remember building it in my back yard, probably in one day. I wish I could see it now. It had to have been an absolute crap fest. I am sure it suffered the fate of so many other models...lighter fluid and firecrackers. Of course I finally decided to spend big bucks for a crappy already built one that I restored to my satisfaction. I am most proud of that model. Within 6 months the re-issue came out!! I now own four of them still in boxes. Why? Because I can! mike

It started watching my brother building the monster builds that were just re-released. But hen I got a hold of a TD kit. . .and it was all over. I had a bunch of kits saved as I went off to college. . .. and they were gone when I came home.
Yea.
I got into the AFX race cars too. . . . for a long time.
Gotta love a custom WILD SHOWROD! ! ! ! ! No mater what scale.
God Bless Dan

I don't remember the year or how old I was. I was into building military models. Then one day my older brother built the AMT '49 Ford and painted it that new color, Kandy Apple Red That was all it took. Several mock battles and firecrackers later all the miltary stuff was gone! The model cars started an obsession with cars. Someday I may get over it...NOT!!! Marty Marysville, OH

About 10 I built Badman first then a few more but after that the railroad bug hit they moved and we lived near a rail yard. But I always loved show rods and drew them a lot as a kid. About 5 years ago got into the hobby again and I love it.

Probably about 8 or 9. I can remember building a 1957 Chev on a Christmas morning. That would be around 1962-3. No paint, glue bomb and no worries! I was hooked. I still remember my Mom taking me to $1.49 day Tuesday at Woodwards department store in New Westminster and i'd sit on the floor in front of the models and take an hour to figure out which one i could buy. Rick.
