This was just dropped in my driveway... 1960 Impala 4 door hard top. Small block with a glide, no brakes. It cost me more to have it transported 40 miles than the car itself did, and I got a deal on transport! What you don't see (I didn't feel like standing in the rain to take too many pictures today.) is it's a Flintstone flyer... Not sure what I'll do with it yet, any ideas?

White scallops or a watson-style panel job in white, a metal flaked roof, lowered, some three-bump Milner chrome reverse wheels or Astros with skinny whites and let it ride...

If by Flintstone Flyer you mean it has no floor in it, let me make a suggestion to you and anyone else in your predicament. Go to Youtube and watch a series of videos by a user names "restodan" He buys cars that have been sitting for a time and gets them running and then sells them for a profit so he can do it again. In one series of his videos he replaces the back seat floor pan in a 1965 Impala with one from another car and the way he does it and the ease with which he does it makes one NOT afraid to tackle such a job. I'd highly recommend watching his videos before you consign a car to scrap just because it need a new floor. Steve

Makes me miss the two door Belair version I had.
I say slam that sucker in the weeds and take the family cruisin'.
Those are cool boats to drive, just don't try to look out the corner of the windshield until your used to having distorted vision.

Here's a side shot... I've had a better look at it today and man, when I say the floor is gone, I mean it's GONE!!! The major problem with this is, it's an X-frame, there's no frame under the rocker panels, (see how gone they are too?) on the drivers side, since it's a hardtop, the center section that holds up the rear door, and has the striker plate for the front door, doesn't have much of anything left holding it in place... Combine that with old iron drum brake and a master cylender that's about the size of my thumb, power nothing... I'm pondering hacking it up into a two door roadster body and dropping it on a S-series Blazer frame...

I still say that after watching RestoDan's Youtube videos, a MIA floor does not have to be a death sentence anymore.

ok, i'd get the frame fixed, then get new floors and rockers put in it...the car is worth fixing unless the 1/4 panels, fenders and doors are full of bondo. then, i'd shave the door handles (which will help conceal that it's a 4 door), drop it as low as possible, add a set of chrome reverse wheels (real ones), maybe some fat whitewalls, throw on a set of headers, glass packs and some straightpipes. install a flame thrower kit in the exhaust with some 3-4" stainless exhaust tips, and maybe a set of lake-pipes just for looks. make sure the motor runs good and isn't worn out...no need to re-build it unless it's blowing smoke like a steam engine. as long as the motor runs good, is quiet and doesn;t smoke...i'd do a spray can overhaul on it, add some misc. chrome and call it good. stance, tire& wheel chioce and how the car sounds will over ride any other imperfections in the body.(but i would fix the frame, floors and rocker panels for sure.) manual drum brakes are fine as long as everything is free and not rusted up (my 55 has manual drum brakes and they work VERY good) but the key to them is maintanace. I'd go with a late 60's mild custom look on this car, and it would be easy to pull off because the car already has great lines and the fins. the glass all apears to be good (which would be expensive as he&& to replace). the interior is easy to re-do (if it needs it), but as long as it's there and looks decent, i'd leave it as is. just make it an around town cruiser, with a late 60's custom look and it'll be a huge hit. there's no way that i could own something like this and not do something with it. send it to the scrap yard? who said that? part it out? no way....i'd keep it and have fun messing with it. when is the next time you are going to get a 60 impala for next to nothing? probably never.

Its definitely got potential. To nice to use as a parts car.I'd get new floor boards put in and consontrate on getting it running. From there the sky's the limit! If you've got the heart and patience it would be a sweet Bellflower style cruiser!

Sometimes just a different set of eyes will bring new life into a project. This drawing says CorvaiRod, but the roofline and beltline made me think of your ride. This would be awesome to do with that big 'ol FO-DO boat you have....

Hmmm, try that 2nd photo again, bring the rear window post half way up the rear door and lengthen the front door line a few inches back. There was an article in one of the back issues of Rod & Kulture (I think) on making a 4dr into a 2dr by stretching the door, relocating the pillar rearward and welding up the rest of the rear door. This one would be way cool if you also did your partial shortening of the rear door section and preserved that unique back glass! I agree on the floor repair comments, save it, even if it is just for practice to see if you can do it, nothing to lose. Ive been playing with the same thoughts for years with my old first car, a 57 Ford Custom 300 4dr resting comfortably on 4 flat tires in my garage.
