I wasn't planning on having the time to get around to be involved in the Deal's Wheels contest, but I found some time over the last weekend+ to do some hacking: Okay, okay, just kidding on that one (but it is a vehicle). Anyway, I don't really do WIPs, but I took a couple of shots of what I'm working on to peak your interest until I can hit the 90% mark. World's shortest drive shaft (it ain't there!) I mostly wanted to show that I took up Wardster on the use of the welding technique. Used what I believe is the third woodburning tool I've owned in my life. He's right on a couple of points, mostly that it gives a strong, immediate bond; and that it takes some practice and finesse. I'll use the method again (I did just buy a new one!) As you can see by the chassis shot, I also went for a variation of Ward's tucked in back wheels. Something I'd seen on Tres' site and I think on an old Bonedigger site. Instead of cutting in the tubs, I trimmed off one set of tread of each back tire (and buzzed down the outer rims equally) to get the wheels to not stick out as much. Anyway, I'm pushing to finish, and I thought putting up this post would keep me from getting fingerprints in wet paint Oops, too late...

Whoo-hoo! I've created a monster! (or two? or six ...?! One can hope!) ;D I had my fingers crossed (six or eight times, actually -- and that really hurts, darn it!) that someone else on these boards would give the whole "plastic welding" thing a good, honest try ... and would like the result enough to keep playing with it ... and would show off their work, here on the Koolest Korner ... and now that I've seen all that happen: whoo-hoo! I consider myself a Winner! Chances of me completing much of anything, in time for the end of this contest, given all the things on my plate at once, weren't odds I'd personally bet on ... so, I had quietly changed my own personal "contest goals" to being an inspiration to one or more persons, as far as getting others to try out plastic welding. So ... to me, the contest's ending date isn't even near ... but, I feel like a winner, anyway! Bbbwwwwaaaaaahhhhaaaahhhhhhaaaaaa! A double-winner, in a sense: since that skill spreading itself around, a bit, over here on the Korners, will likely end up putting at least a few stalled projects back onto people's benches; etc. In all seriousness: you made my day, fine and good sir, by trying that out! It was "one of those days" for me, up until this thread began ... but now, I'm all giddy happiness and smiles! Having said that: I'll just shut up, so you can post more pics! No fair holding out on us, any longer than you have to ... please!? It's looking like a great summer, already. I'm looking forward to seeing a bunch of people's in-progress stuff finished up! ;D -- Ward Shrake --

Okay, now that I've posted the finished product in the Deal's Wheels contest site, here are some other WIP shots: First coat of primer. I patched that hole on the door, but it's since come back to haunt me. First coat of acrylic pearl blue. Before doing the initial cuts, I had glued the front bumper on to add strength to the body while I worked. However, when I got to the finishing touches, I couldn't get the headlight lenses in and had to resort to clear epoxy.
