I have been in the process of trying to organize parts. I started with the purchases of clear plastic shoe storage boxes from the dollar store or wherever they are the cheapest. I put engines in one, tires in another, wheels in another, interior parts in another....etc. At some point I would like to segregate those parts into subcategories, IE - valve covers, suspension, seats....etc

So far I've filled up three small storage stacks (each with 18 trays), twelve small plastic boxes (each about half the size of a kit box), 4 big zip lock bags, and three drawers in a small chest with car stuff. The bike stuff lives in three of the biggest postage boxes I could find.
And then there's the stuff still left in kit boxes after I've taken what I want out of the kit....

I have a champaine fountain style... Theres a pyramid of built kit boxes {most holding the kits extra pieces} that get fillled then filtlered and fine picked.... The top box has all the stuff..the larger rails more thinned stock, the bottom rail has the fine picked stuff..{like 12 boxes} After awhile I take the twelve and condense it to one. Then the fountain starts again!!!

I have these things. I try to organize because quite often I will look for say a "steering" wheel that I think would look better and if I can look through all of them in one shot....it's a time saver. Here is the only pic I have right now, but each drawer has a different type of part in it. I then have containers for crafts? that have seperators for tires.....I have a lot of tires. What doesn't fit into those are in plastic drawers just kinda mixed up. Drawers seperate hoods, wheels, tires, resin tires, resin parts, aluminum parts, photo etch parts, hub caps, axles, metal axles, screws, engines, intakes, pulleys, steering wheels etc etc....

Yep, the stackable units with the plastic drawers, different sizes, some drawers are even subdivided, depends on size of parts and how many are stored, labels on each one. Tires in bags sorted by style.

hehe! lovely mess ya got there! I admit stuff can get messy, but with two house cats it's tough to leave anything out. I have to keep things "organized" just so they can't get into them. I wish I had walls with a door around my space.

This was my old closet, it's not as organized right now, but I work out of little nut and bolt bins at the kitchen table. I have one main box and three smaller ones I inherited with parts I don't use as much. The main box has all my favorite engines, blowers, rims, interior parts, accessories and suspension parts. It is my palette. I also have a model box with nothing but chrome trees and others with hot rod parts like model A and T parts....

Previously, I had a chaos system, more or less everything in a crate, then there were two, then three and so on... Over the years there have been more and more parts, I spent much time looking for with, and never find the right one, so I decided to arrange everything, and believe me, it's still not all sorted! A small selection of my parts storage... Ah, here is a few of: the lost direction, the unfinished, and the in progress...

Awe geeeez ... man you guys are spot on ... no way am I going to show my "parts box" ..Ha! ... My hat (if I had worn a hat that is) is off to both you fellas for your organizational skills... every time I make an effort to organize parts I end up getting overwhelmed with the task in hand and just end up rooting through all the drawers and boxes .. no wonder it takes me for ever to find the parts I need !.. this is truly an inspirational thread in its self ...

lol well I knew that Bobby...but what I was wondering is "where did ya get the grooved tray?" Is a "CD Holder" from IKEA. INREDA CD rack 51x33 cm. Can be cut to desired size to fit in different spaces. ;D Makes maximum use of drawer space; holds 95 CDs, or abused: cut and placed into a plastic drawerbox, great for my Strip Styrene storage... milo.com/inreda-cd-rack

Good job.
Excuse me, I have to make a trek to IKEA.
