Showtime! (a bit early, but see my Contest Info thread for why... )
Welcome to the 2011 Fools For TD - Tom Daniel Tribute Contest!
This thread is for images only!!
Comments and attaboys belong in the discussion thread. Any non-entry posts on this thread will be deleted.
Please include a short description if you'd like, and limit your images to 4 or 5. You can add multiple entries within the same post, or you can make a separate post for each build.
If you didn't finish, please post your in-progress photos here anyways.
This thread will remain open until next Monday or Tuesday night when I get back from Del Mar to allow time for pictures and posting over the weekend.... Unless Paul sees fit to close the gates, I'll leave that to his discretion. After that it gets locked and history will have been made. Thrash and finish those builds!
So, without any further adieu, Let's do this!

Rattler
This is my boxstock entry, Tom Daniel’s Rattler. Some Scurvy dog around here dared me to build one, so I said, what the hell. I pulled a MIB kit out of the stash. I built it pretty close to the boxart, but changed the engine block color to yellow. Something I noticed once I opened the kit; on the boxart, and the few build-ups I’ve seen, the roof spoiler is the same color as the body; but in the box, it comes as a chrome piece. I decided to leave it chrome rather than paint it, be a little different that way. The decal sheet was nice and like new, glossy and flat. I thought, at least I won’t have any problems there! WRONG! Luckily I decided to test the small spoiler decal first; it broke up in the water. So I coated the rest of them with decal film. They STILL broke up. (sigh). I am getting to HATE old decals! Paint is Testor’s Boyd Lime Pearl.

A Tale Of Two Toms
This is my kitbash entry. I took Tom Daniel’s T’Rantula kit, cut off the body from the firewall forward. I took Tommy Ivo’s 4 engine dragster, surgically altered the chassis to mate with the cab of the T’Rantula. I used cast resin Richard Carroll tires I bought a few years ago from our own Joe Demicola. Because the front tires are so low profile, I had to alter the chassis/front axle a bit. The wheels are from 2 Digger ‘Cuda kits, with some chrome rings added to make them deeper. I went to Michael’s and found something to use for the balls in the stacks. Paint is Testor’s Boyd Black-N-Blue Pearl. I really like this paint, it has tiny metallic flecks, and depending on the light and angle, looks either dark purple or dark blue.

Blue Ray My bash entry…. This started as a Lil Van. Being that I am a huge bubbletop fan what else could this end up as? The bubble is a cut off salad spoon (I love these!). I added the side supports and windows under them. I added the hump and fins in the rear. The tires and wheels are from the parts box. The front grille piece was added as well as the headlights. I hope you like it Dave

My box stock build… The Garbage Truck I always loved this one when I was a kid and it was and is a very nice build. I decided to use different colors and chose the red and black theme. I added the decals inside the rear. I did the surfboards in some wild patterns using tape. I hope you like it. Dave

First entry... [shadow=red,left,300]"The LAW BREAKER"[/shadow]Based on the "Roarin' Rail" with "Street Cleaner" x2 rear tires plus another "Roarin' Rail" engine along with a half pound of tire weight lead... Engines were hollowed out completely to save every bit of weight possible... So just what Law is it Breaking, You might ask?... Why the Law of Gravity, of course!

Here's my original Rommel's Rod after restoration. The steering is now poseable. Skeletons have been altered with boot hill express bones and the map table and maps are scratch-made.

Lastly here's my thrown together box stocker Cherry Bomb. Sorry guys, hobby time has been extremely limited for me over the last year. I just wanted to be part of this celebration for our friend, Tom Daniel. All the best, my friend!

Ice`T`Almost boxstock, with a few small changes: Removal of the side fuel tanks, ...wired motor, ...enlarged opening in the front nose, ...the wheels, on back with aluminum sleeves, turned and polished, with rubbers, carved from a motorcycle handlebar grip, ...the rear lights are LEDs, ...real metal chains, ...the color is a metallized, pearl ice blue thing... Hope, you like it.
