My 2p view!!!!!!! I love this place and come here every day.......i also go to TRAK every day. I go for different things. Here for show rods and TRAK for trad rods and customs. I like the way Bob deletes OT builds as i dont want to see these things. I will go elsewhere for those. Dont get me wrong, a great model is a great model whatever the subject and i can appreciate that, but i come here for showrods!!!!!!!! What is a showrod......well you have the 275 for reference and the stuff Elden, plowboy and Shuten have built...knock yourself out.... Can i suggest a forum to post things that you are not sure about and let the moderators decide on wherther it is showrods-able (is that a word? ?) Lets keep this place as the name implies!!!!!!!! Showrods forever!!!!!!! reading this back, it sounds like a rant, but it is not meant to be Cheers Lee

What is a Showrod?
Are Dave's " The Show Room" cars Showrods?
If you check Dave's "The Show Room", you will find Cartoon Cars, Hot Rods, Show Rods, Movie Cars, Celebrity Cars, Concept Cars, Customs, Drag Cars, VW Vans & Bugs, TV Cars, Motorcycles and More!!!
Is a 49 Mercury with a chopped top a Show Rod? What if it was in a movie or TV show? What if it was built for a Rock Star? What if it had a Bubbletop, does that make it a Show Rod?
I think that maybe the definition of a Show Rod on this site is a custom car, truck, motorcycle or cartoon car that you might find at a custom car show.

Guys i have been mostly a lurker here for YEARS but did post a few pics of stuff i was working on some time ago.Tim started this thread and to me ,him Fred and Canney were the stand out guys when i found this site.I personnaly miss their work as it gave me something to aspire to.When you have guys who knock stuff out of the park on a regular basis it makes you want to do the same thing.I am not knocking anyone here or the stuff they build but i miss the old days when Fred showed a new build every week (or so it seemed). So Tim heres the deal you build a new showrod and i will get off my as* and do the same ,i will even take pictures and post them which is no small feat for me.If someone knows how to get hold of Fred and drag him away from his Halloween stuff then do it! Surely Canney has finished that house by now !All you other clowns know who you are get building!!!!!!!!!!!!This is in no way a challenge or competition just stick a show rod together and post it !

Think I'm guilty of OT and a newbie at that too (gulp). Its just that I saw a real link with my stuff and what Ive seen here. I don't think you can over-do a model if you know where to stop. I can relate to the purist and understand that when I signed in here I was treading on thin ice with my stuff. But its the closest forum that relates to what I do. I'm in the process of posting a how-to on making a Roth style character from scratch right through to 5 finished painted resin copies. Probly totally OT but many showrod builders might glean some useful technique in regard to how I mold and cast resin pieces. I'm also thinking of posting my various techniques on clear finishing. Getting car paint on without melting the plastic etc, bet you didn't think I used brasso to polish that with too. Weird but effective. Tell me that this is to off topic and I'll pass. On the plus side I do have a Tijuana Taxi getting closer to the workbench.

OK, let's look for some clarification real quick. There is a not-so-fine line between a "Showrod" and a "Show Car". You can go to just about any weekly cruise night and see some great "show cars" of all types. Cleanly detailed customs and hot rods, blown gassers and altered coupes, Mustangs and Camaro's so clean they look like they just rolled off the showroom. Corvettes of every year imaginable, some customized with velour interiors and outlandish airbrushed paint jobs. Van's with murals and custom interiors with massive video screens for movies and games. People spend countless hours building and detailing these vehicles for car shows. They are all, indeed, "Show Cars". Now, let's step back in time to the late 1950's early 1960's. Daryll Starbird decides to take his brand new T-Bird, which got involved in a wreck, and make something different from the remains, a "one-of-a-kind" car. A futuristic bubble top, joystick controlled steering, a television(!) among other oddities never before seen in a car. The name of this futuristic television, with it's bubble screen and outrageous design....... ...became inspiration for this futuristic automobile, the first "Bubble- topped Showrod".... Many more would follow as the years rolled by. Some would be practical......driveable..... Some, well, not so practical..... Well, downright stupid! We enjoyed some of the best, purest showrods from our old friend Ed Roth during the 60's. Ed's designs have been the basis for many a bubbletop creation over the years. The Beatnik Bandit is still probably one of the most loved creations mever built, and it's design has withstood the test of time. It's just a magnificent car. The Bandit was followed by several more creations we all still love. Road Agent, Mysterion, Orbitron..... Starbird would also continue to blow bubbletopped creations of all types. Futurista, Percepta, Cosma Ray.... It was a great time in showrod history. We saw dozens of builders creating literally hundreds of crazy showrods. By the 80's though, they had fallen out of favor. Many disappeared to warehouses, garages and barns, and compactors! In the last ten or so years, we have seen a resurgence in the return of many of these cars. Dozens have been restored! Many "lost" cars have been found, restored, and are now being shown again. Clones of some of the cars which were completely lost have been created. We are living in good "Showrod Times!" (AGAIN!) As modelers, we have been treated to reissues of many of our old favorite kits from these glory days, by manufacturers and talented resin casters alike! I propose this: Let's create a "Master Showrod List" thread. All of us post photos of 1:1 showrods we have. If you have the builders name, the name of the car, and any details, please put it down in print. Imagine a HUGE thread, with reference for hundreds of killer showrods!!!! Let's see what you have! I hope this clarifies what many of us old guys have stated before, and clarifies the difference between "show rods" and "show cars". Thanks for listening......

This is the last Show Rod I finished. I recently switched out the front rims with PE wires. Yes, this is a Showrod site. But even Dave has declared some drag cars to be showrods. He also declared some modern customs to be showrods. We all accepted the Roth Weirdo figure and Zingers and Deals stuff. For me if it is outrageous enough - It's in. I like sharing with the people here. Hosted on Fotki

I'm not a big contributor to the site, though I visit almost daily. I have observed anything from "show rods" to "out houses" on this site from most everyone that posts on the Corner. I never questioned why because I chose what I wanted to look at and what I wanted to read. It has been both inspirational and educational to me to see some of the tips, techniques, and mind-blowing builds "shown" here. After reading the thread I asked myself what a show rod was. I came up with the same answer they came up with decades ago. It is a place where there is usually a competitive exhibition, a place where builds are allowed to be seen or displayed such as a hot rod car. Thus, it became a "SHOW ROD". It's a place to direct one's attention to something accomplished, to become visible or evident to others. A place to share new ideas and visions. If you customize, rejuvenate, alter, or improve upon an idea, any vehicle or mode of transportation, then by definition and you show it, it must be a show rod. It would be a shame to exclude any of the builds seen here. To me, they're all "show" rods. From a Big Frankie to a Big Deuce no one can say they only build show rods. We all need a break from our preferred builds occasionally. To give audience is justification for time spent in all our endeavors. If you haven't been building strictly show rods, I wonder how many will in the future? My interests, like many of you, are too varied to build the same old show rod as the next guy. Seriously, unless there is ever another scale produced of Ala Kart I doubt anyone will build one that looks any different than the ones built now. I don't see any freedom of expression in copying something that someone else has already done, and I doubt you'd have very may people going to shows if everyone built the same thing all these years. That would be boring.

That would be boring." (*Eggzilla*) "There are 275 kits on the "Alpha List" and if 500+ "Members" can't come up with 10,000+ interpretations of those, then maybe all is lost! Say it isn't so!!! Hone your skills elsewhere. Build a SHOWROD here!!!" (* "Paulie" * ) Not to be a doosh, but 10,000+ interpretations wouldn't get "boring" any time soon! ;D And not to sound "Fruity" (Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;D) but there is a "Rainbow of Colors" out there! Not to mention Alclad, BMF, Flocking, lighting, wiring, wheels, tires, finishes & patinas. Who says a Rommel's Rod has to end up weathered and beaten? Or a Mysteron to be pristine, "Just 13.7 easy, gentle miles." Maybe they could be anything but. Heck even a "Flower Child Dune Cruiser"? Or a dilapidated hulk of parts succumbing to the elements between a barn and an oak tree? (OK, maybe that's going a little too far, but you get the idea. ;D) Take the balls of the bashers, the skills of the "C.C. pros", the imagination of the GREATS, wrap them in your own talents & visions and show us your "Showrods"!!! My most recent. A build for personal gratification (first "Showrod" in several years ), a local "contest/display" and, as luck would have it , the 2010 Fool's "contest" I personally prefer Box Art perfection but this also turns out to be an excellent example of the diversity of "Showrods". I believe there were two other "Depth Chargers" here as well as a couple posted pre- "contest" and I was up against two other "Depth Chargers" locally as well. None of "us" "WON", either here or locally but the diversity of the builds could not have been any more pronounced! All Turquoise, Silver Hammer Tone & Luxury Blue, Box Stock Black & Yellow, Brass & Red and the "Gas Chamber" version that was fairly recently posted here. That's a half a dozen variations on one kit alone!!! Look at Flounder's Uncertain "T". No, those aren't the wheels & tires or engine details (or any other details the kit came with) but look closer. Not only are there "personal innovations" but seamless body work, flawless paint, beautifully executed Alclad and even a perfectly centered license plate! Look at Brandon's R.R. Snow Go! A R.R. with a snow Bunny Twist! There may even be room for a very select few "modern interpretations". The Voo-Doo Spyder, The Vibrasonic, The Atomic Punk but now we're getting into pretty rarefied air! You'd better bring your "A" game if you want to play in these boy's park! You're going to be starting from scratch! What's a "Showrod" Check the alpha list! Cruise the guest gallery, there are many on the alpha list that STILL haven't been submitted there!. C'mon people! We all know in our hearts what a "Showrod" is. Drop a pair and build that grail, the way YOU interpret it! Paint a "Beer Wagon" Purple Pearl Metalic" and chisten it Papa Luigi's Wine Wagon for all I care. The point is if there's passion and talent there, it will shine through! A "Showrod" is a "Showrod", not a show car or truck. OK, who kicked the soap box out from under me??? ;D ;D ;D (And DANGED Tim!!! You really did open up a can "o" worms here, what with the pot calling the kettle black and all!!!) I Love Ya All! "Paulie"

Well.... I dare to concider myself one of the older guys in here.... I have been a member for many years, even though the level of activity has gone up and down. And yes, due to technical problems I got a new user name back in early 2010, but have been a member longer than that... I have to agree with Tim, even though I am guilty of posting OT builds. I am ashamed by that No, it IS a show rod site, and I agree it should be for show rods only. I agree that there must be a zillion ways yet to build the show rods we all know, and of course there are unlimited possibillities for those good enough, to come up with their own design, and get it down on the shelf.... So I dont believe we beat the show rod to death, its still very much alive and kickin.... That brings us to another issue, what IS a show rod. Well, even though I think most of us knows perfectly well what a show rod is, it might not be so easy to put it in words... Or writing... A blown pick up truck is not a show rod, no matter how impressive it is. A chopped ´49 Merc is not a show rod, no matter how impressive THAT one is.... How can we describe what a show rod is? Difficult one. As mentioned here before there are a big grey zone, its not just black and white. Is the original Batmobile a show rod? The Monkees mobile? The Futura? For some they are, and for others they are not. I dont agree that the Zingers are show rods because they were built in 1:1, but the Deals are not because they are fantasy. Does that mean that the Boot Hill Express, Red Baron, and the Beatnik Bandit are show rods because they are built in 1:1, but the Hangman, Tijuana Taxi and Lil´Gasser are not, because they were never real cars? Maybe we need to agree on a new definition on what a show rod is? About cutting off the fat... Is it a good idea to remove all non show rod builts? I.M.O. that is not an easy decision. I think it would be the best thing to do - again this IS a show rod site - remove them, including my non show rod crap ;D The down site to this is, that it might scare off some newbies, especially in relation to the problem defining what a show rod is. I have been on TRAK. I posted a ´29 Ford pick up rat rod. It got a few very positive comments, and suddenly it was removed. Apparantly the ´70ties four banger was outside the box, thus disqualifying the model. I have no problem with that, fine with me. However it made me realize that I do not know enough about this type of cars/models, so I havent tried to post anything since. I can not judge if the steering wheel, the hubcaps, the exhaust tips - or whatever - are too modern, so I simply dont post pics there. That effect might kick in here too, if we decide to cut away all non show rods. However, in my oppinion that is what we should do. Make the show rod rally a place for show rods. At this time I can only be even more annoyed about my paint problems with the Round 2 model I was working on. (see my thread on the General show rod board), if I hadnt had those problems, I would have finished a Depth Charger this week. Instead this is my latest show rod model still, but not for long. Thats for sure

I don't think that we should abolish other builds that aren't showrod related, but rather make an off topic category for non show rod builds. Not all TD designs are all showrods and I think that we should always include his other work as well. I just posted an El Camino funny car that TD designed in the complete projects section. Cars like that should still be acceptable in my opinion.

Well .... although I have acquired many of the old show rod kits over the past few years with plans for building them, I do have other interests .. I rarely post anything non-modeling related although I do have an extensive shop right out my back door .. and I'm still doing the music thing playing rock star on weekends ..lol... but in addition to all this going on I have other model interests/kits in the wings I plan on building ... I realize Dave founded this site to be an exclusive Show Rod site and I've seen many leave as a result of the variances over the past few years .. Although I would love to share my "other" builds (non-show rod) I often just popp'em in the case unless it's something really off the wall ... I respect the fact as to why this site was founded and the work that goes in to keep this place clean of rif-raf ... I do like my Deals Wheels and a few figurine monster type cars and will continue to build them as well .. I'm not certain of any existing boards for them but if anyone knows of any please let me know .. ! I know Tres has a great website with lots of photos and I still frequent it ... I will do my best to to post only things found in the Alpha list until my brain invisions something worthy and help stay on track..

When assigned to do this historic retrospective on show rods, I immediately realized that are so many different opinions on the subject that it would be darned near impossible (if I might be allowed to quote a historic statement) to even please some of the people some of the time. Being similar to programmatic architecture (you know, where a giant hot dog is a refreshment stand and a motor lodge represents a Native American wigwam encampment, etc.), these cars are difficult to accurately catalog or adequately describe. Knowing this as I started was both a curse and a blessing . . . I think. First of all, we're looking at a sub-group of vehicles that are, in certain instances, not all that easy to define--hence the "Wacky" prefix to our title (although it also fits the more bizarre of the genre). For instance, was the "Ala Kart" a show rod? Most definitely! Was it wacky? Not in my mind. Flamboyant, possibly, even excessive, yes, but wacky--no way! I feel that it, and Ed Roth's "Excaliber," were the first real show rods. They weren't merely rods put in a show, but purpose-built vehicles made to perform a particular task--to take home the gold! These cars performed this task (particularly the "Ala Kart") quite admirably. I believe that the "Ala Kart" was the first actual show rod to be turned into a model car kit (AMT). However, it had a close race with Revell's miniature of Roth's "Outlaw" (the name was changed from "Excaliber"). With this, a trend was started for these and other model car companies. Here, you will find one reporter's opinion on the rise and fall of what was either Roddingdom's greatest folly, or most entertaining offspring--your call. Even the lines that define the era of the show rod are a bit gray, for if a hot rodded and/or customized car is already an automotive anomaly, what then is a show rod--a Superanomaly? Since the beginning of the automobile, fertile advertising minds (and this ain't no bull) have put unique vehicles on urban streets to hype products or businesses. Some of these vehicles even complemented the chain of roadside eateries or other business ventures that they represented (a phenomenon that took place mainly in the '20s and '30s). A great example that still exists is the Harry Bentley Bradley-designed "Weinermobile." Over the years, there have been many cars and trucks either partially or fully decked out. We have seen everything from beer bottles to mission-style buildings, as was the case with the fleet of '29 Model A Ford advertising/delivery cars for Bell Potato Chips (they were replete with faux Spanish tile roofs and bell towers). George Barris even got in on the programmatic vehicle act (what act hasn't he been involved in when cars are involved?) with the "V-8 Roadster" for Campbell that was fashioned after a giant V-8 Vegetable Juice can--it was even made into a toy by Zee Toys. So, what then can be said of vehicles that represented everything from a pinball machine, to a popcorn vending wagon, to in and outdoor household "necessities" (as they too were most definitely made for advertising purposes--the advertisement of car shows that is!)? A line from Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities might be appropriate here, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," and it certainly was! Indoor hot rod and custom car shows have, from the very beginning, been the result of a three-way symbiotic relationship between promoters, car builders, and the show going public. The later is the wild card, as they have their choice of entertainment venues. The very reason most indoor shows are held during the winter is two-fold (besides the obvious protection from the weather). First, it's garage time for most car guys; time to build for next season. This is especially true in the Midwest and Eastern states. Second, it gives non-car folk something to do during the doldrums of winter, as they might be otherwise occupied during the summer months. As I see it, there are possibly three categories of show rods. First, the over-the-top "designer cars" like the aforementioned Barris "Ala Kart." This grouping would include experimental efforts like Starbird's "Predicta," Dave Puhl's "Illusion," Dean Jeffries "Manta Ray," Bill Cushenbery's "Silhouette," Gene Winfield's "Reactor," the Harry Bradley-designed "Indy Rod," and several others of note as well. Then, there were the whimsical, hot rod-based vehicles, many of which, like Dan Woods' "Milk Truck" and Carl Casper's "Paddy Wagon," were variations on a C-cab, commercial vehicle theme. Included with this group should be the countless T-based show rods like the "Mod Rod," by Mike Haas. It seems that the efforts of professional builders started a trend, inspiring numerous homebuilders to get into the act as well. Others promoted the skills of their custom shops, which also built rods (as there were really no rod-building shops like there are today). Some, like Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, used their odd rod prodigy not only to receive appearance money, but to attract buyers to their line of merchandise (the bulk of which consisted of airbrushed and silk-screened T-shirts). There were also the professionals who specialized in creating vehicles for the show circuit. Professionals included men like Bob Reisner and Jay Ohrberg, who's California Show Cars Company was responsible for commissioning many such vehicular aberrations for their touring automotive menagerie. Designers such as Tom Daniel and Ed Newton came up with many of the concepts, and some were even offered as model cars before or at the same time the actual vehicle was built. Also, many such vehicles were TV and movie cars first, afterwards being put on the show circuit. Productions of the model version (if offered) followed shortly behind. It must also be noticed that just because someone is credited with a particular vehicle, doesn't necessarily mean they actually designed or built it. A car's creation often took a team of talented individuals, many of which we'd recognize if all the information were able to be gathered (but most likely never will be, as there were, and are, a lot of egos involved). At this point we haven't even gotten into the three-wheelers. Although these were generally lumped into the same pile, they can hardly be classified as being cars at all. This is actually a shame, as these creations have a history of being ignored by both bike and automotive publications. Adding to the decline of show rods, the times themselves had changed. Hot rod and custom street action had evolved into factory muscle and professional drag racing venues like the "Gasser Wars." Another change came when many young men had to go off to fight a real war in Southeast Asia. Pick up a Car Craft from the Vietnam era and check out some of Ed Roth's T-shirt ads penned by Robert Williams--you won't believe your eyes, and you'll probably laugh so hard at the political incorrectness that your sides would hurt! Now, all of this makes for a great story in a linear historical prospective kind of way, but like most things involving lots of people and things, it's just not all that neatly cut and dried. Although all of the reasons mentioned are true, some things were happening simultaneously and continued well after the time frame we'd like to neatly package it all into--the '60s and '70s. Just like customizing, show rods never really died out completely, especially to those with cars competing on the ISCA circuit. So what does it take for a car to be a really wacky show rod? It must have that air of impracticality, as the public has already experienced the average and mundane in their personal, daily transportation. I do believe that there are at least some rules that generally apply (but obviously not so in every case). A show rod must have, as stated, that obvious air of impracticality (at least implied), and a novelty of design. A car must imply pure folly, with things like an exposed chromed and polished engine (or engines), or have a theme, such as a stagecoach, cement mixer, beer wagon or outhouse... Cars like that should still be acceptable in my opinion. I totally agree with this! We need an "off-topic" section again. I think that would solve the problem. And NO, I don't think we need to remove all non-showrod threads, nobody has that kind of time anyway! Poor Paul and Brandon!!! LOL. I should have kept my mouth shut....

As so many other have said "what is a showrod?" "What makes a car a showrod and what doesn't?" well, everyone has a different opinion on those 2 questions. we could all sit and argue "that's not a showrod, that is a showrod...."it all comes down to personal opinion i think because everyone's opinion is different. Over the past few years i have seen the "rules" get pretty loose, and i have seen everything from spaceships to total stock builds posted here. again, ALL modeling is a good thing, and it's fast becoming a lost art. I do agree that an "other builds" area would be a great addition to this site so that everyone can contribute what they've built. I mean the guy who builds a totally detailed, weatherd and lit up space ship should be able to show it off to his friends right? I kind of look at it this way, if i don't want to look at a totaly stock car, i change the channel and go to something that i do like to look at. I too love drag cars and hot rods and i have been known to post pics of quite a few of these that i've built. BUT, if you dig deep into the idea of "what is a showrod" there are A LOT of drag cars (dragsters, funny cars, altereds, etc) that can realistically fit into the showrod genre. think about ed roths "yellow fang" dragster, carl caspers undertaker dragster and his galloping ghost dragster, mostly all of tommy ivo's dragsters can fit in as well. they are drag cars, but yet wild enough to fit into the showrod category in my opinion. Think about some of the 60's & 70's funny cars....they were not only racing machines but the craftsmanship and detail also made them show cars. as for the altereds, just looking at them make you think "wild" and some of the altered wheel base cars were over the top with their paint, attention to detail and craftsmanship. but these are only my opinions. A true showrod is something that's totally off the wall, something that a "normal" car builder wouldn't even attempt to build. sometimes when you look at a showrod, it makes you ask yourself "why?". but that's the point...why not build something that someone else has never done before? sure, anyone can build a kit of the ala kart box stock, and that would get kind of boring after awhile. BUT, if you take an ala kart and totally change it around, no 2 will be the same and they would never get boring. That's the fun in building a showrod...there is no right or wrong way to do it. deals wheels and zingers to me are showrods because they are so wild. sure, a lot of people say they are cartoon cars, but again, when you look at it ask yourself "why would someone build that?" there is the deals wheels 57 chevy in 1:1 scale, but i don't think that's the point (weather a car has been done in 1:1 scale or not). the point is, if it's wacky, and no one has done it before, it can be considered a showrod. a modern pro-mod drag car or truck is NOT a showrod, it's simply a drag car. but if someone built a modern pro-mod drag car that looked like a flying carpet...then it becomes a showrod on my opinion. there's such a gray area like so many others have mentioned but when you have been around this long enough, you know what is a showrod and what isn't showrod when you look at it. we could go on and on and on trying to figure out a classification for what a showrod is, but honestly, i don't think there really is a definite classification. is a 58 thunderbird a showrod? probably not. is a 58 thunderbird with a bubbletop. multi carbed engine, lowered stance, watson style paint job and a t.v. in the interior a showrod? it could be to some people.
I just think that we need to get back to the roots of the site and show all of the wild builds and get away from showing the stockers, space stuff, and nascars. I agree with dan about way back in the begining when dave would accept or reject the builds that went onto the site. It was all in his control and it was his decision to deem it a showrod or not. I had a few builds rejected by dave because they were not showrods in his eyes. but on the other hand i have had a few builds accepted into the gallery that were not showrods at all. Dave thought that they were wild enough to fit in. these days anyone can post up pics of whatever they want, which makes it really easy for someone to post pics of their latest nascar build. (which does not fit in here). it's not so much about builder quality but the subject matter. but of corse, we all like to see well done models rather than glue bombs or sloppy builds. I understand that there is a learning curve and if i see something that i don't like, i personally don't post a comment about it. everyone has the right to post pics of their builds, but lets try to keep them in the showrod spectrum. I have been a member here for many years (15 plus if i remember right) and i'm not afraid to post my opinions of what i see.

Boy this topic could go on and on huh? ;D So it's time to make a decision for the forum to grow in one direction or the other. 1. You can either clean up all of the OT stuff and adhere to the title of this forum which includes "A discussion group about model show rods!"... keeping all OT types deleted. 2. You can make an OT section and still have anything from rat rods to nascar showing up. To me, option #2 just takes away from this forum. I don't know of any other forum like this and it's the reason I am here. I don't go to scale auto, rarely go to model cars mag forum and am actually a member of at least 30 forums that I stopped going to because they all have the same thing on them...... For me personally, if CC becomes "general interest" even more so than it has been.....(yes it has been because everything has been allowed for the most part) I would probably stop coming on as often. Not to bring my forum up again, but I thought it would be a good idea a few years ago to put an OT section up for the ones that wanted to show other than rod, kustom, drags pre 1969. That idea didn't go well and was never executed because of the large number of people who said they would leave.....because it would just be another forum for models. Ya know...I am glad I didn't do it. There are 1,112 members today and it's very active. I think the reason it stays so active is because it's "on topic". I am pushing for SHOW RODS only here on CC...it's what I come here for and it's what makes this site what it is. If you toss the other stuff in....it's JUST another model car forum and there are at least 100 of them boring forums out there.

rodburner is right on some levels, but lets face it, we have all become friends over the years here. sometimes we like to share things that aren't even model related...some things that are family oriented, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, dogs, kids...all kinds of stuff because we are in a sense, all friends and one big family. I would not like to see the site become a general interest group because that would take away from the underground feel of the showrods. you know, us showrodders are sometimes not considered "real" model builders because we don't correctly wire an engine (or wire an engine at all). the people who build those stock cars that are correct right down to the correct firing order and paint code, look at showrods as toys. This is where we can shine because we have the "so what" attitude, and we aren't afraid to bend the rules and stick our noses up at the those guys. We are better than they are because we are artists and we can virtually create something from nothing. They, on the other hand, can build a model 100% stock (big whoop-de-doo). BUT, it would be nice to have an area to post all this other mish-mash stuff that we like to talk about.

Show Rods only. Otherwise it's just another board. That's my vote and why I am here. I have a board for everything else.
