Hi! I just finished a fairly involved science-fiction project, a conversion of Pegasus' "Mercury Nine" kit into a Thirties-style Space Pirates ship. I've already posted the pics to a science-fiction forum, but I thought you guys might like to see them, too:
Here's a link to the starting kit (at Amazon):
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004A8ZHHO/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000CJZ30Q&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0F4XSFQSG0GBTMYSKS5R
An overall view. The model is 1/144 scale. The trusswork is plastruct strip; the little buildings are scratchbuilt using Grandt Line N-scale doors and windows. I photoetched the nameplate myself using MicroMark's home photoetch system:

A painter at work (My wife wants me to tell you that in the foreground is a hoist lifting a crate):

A little tank truck, scratchbuilt body on a teeny tank chassis (wow, looks like cr*p in the picture! I've since eliminated the crummy-looking windows, which were made using Testors Clear Parts Cement and Window Maker, and built better ones from clear sheet styrene):

The bow gun turret, with four Heinemann Corbomitic Aether Blasters ready to deal out flaming death. The turret rotates and the guns elevate:

A view of the backside of the model:

A monstrous annelid worm:

Rocket exhausts, jollied up a bit with some greeblies:
i193.photobucket.com/albums/z256/hilbyf/Space%20pirates/DSCN3731.jpg
The infinite subterranean treasure chamber (viewed through the opening in the front of the base). The model has lights in the spaceship flight deck, in the tool shack, and the treasure chamber, plus a spotlight directed on the painter. I used Ngineering surface-mount LEDs in their "golden" color, which has quite a distinct green tinge.

...and one of the side turrets, with a single Heinemann "Little Annie" Corbomitic Jr. Aether Blaster:
