this was a gluebomb that i won in a box lot on ebay. when i first saw the auction, i thought it was a bug bomb that someone hacked up , since it had a sunroof and different wheel and tires. once i found out what it was and how scarce it is i figured it deserved a restoration. the door had a chunk out of it, and the roof was cracked. the clear glass parts were all glued up and dust had eaten the chrome away .all the glass except for the headlights was wet sanded and polished out to get the glue marks out. keith chambers supplied me with a set of old decals that i had reproduced. the only non original part on it is the exhuast tip ,which came off of a junk mclapper .

........How do I keep missing these things???.............. This model is a really easy one to miss because it is super rare. It was issued in the 80's as the "L'il Herbie" and is actually something of a reissue of the Deal's Wheels Bug Bomb. The Bug Bomb itself usually goes for big bucks (200+), but the L'il Herbie routinely brings more than that. I've seen several go over 300. Apparently it has a lot of crossover appeal, it attracts bidding from Deal's Wheels fans, Herbie fans AND Volkswagon fans. I have some pictures on my site of Don's Herbie before he started the resto, here's one just to give you an idea of how far he brought it!! Obviously he did an outstanding job

thanks for all the compliments guys. its because of seeing the work you guys do that got me into restoring old kits like this .i actually have more fun "bringing one back" than building unbuilt kits. since i found this site i've restored a tijuana taxi, street fighter, quicksilver, jinx express, sand crab , gomad nomad , stink ray, tirebird , bug bomb and now this herbie. a lot of you guys have helped me with parts to finish them, and i still have a pile of gluebombs to go through!

It always amazes me, how people can restore glue bombs, I have trouble building from the box. When you see before/after shots,,,even more impressive. Well done
