So what is the worst built kit ever to hit your bench? What condition was it in, and if you have before and/ or after pics.

No pictures, but several of the old Revell kits, when coupled with an eager young kid didn't go as planned at all.. The Orange Crate comes to mind first, Roth's Outlaw, the Road Agent, the red Anglia with the opening doors... Casper's Undertaker is a pain... the headers and engines of Ivo's Showboat (which I've built a couple of.. eesh.) time, patience, and the understanding of scraping plating and being careful when removing flimsy chrome bars have helped... as a generalization, the Monogram kits were sturdy like toys, AMT was my favorite, and Revell had the cool stuff, but you had to be careful with all of the fiddly little details, tie rods, and hinges you had to build.

Looking back, the old Revell 55-6-7 Chevys with the opening doors and too much detail. They were just fiddly and the front grille and bumpe areas were especially weak. Also, have to agree with Brandon on the Undertaker. I've got a partially built Polar Lights version and the plastic in that kit was just hostile to glue. I got tired of putting it back together repeatedly, it's back in the box awaiting my return which may never happen.

Good question! When I was in the Road Knights model club in Charlotte, we did this as a meeting theme to put some perspective in things for the newer builders. We had everybody bring some examples in of the kind of things you guys are describing. We had prizes for the worst paint, worst overall, etc. I brought an old Palmer T-Bird that I had experimented on with painting over water droplets and then bursting the paint for an effect. Nastiest thing you ever saw, green over a purple base to boot. You guys are pretty hard on the old Undertaker! Remember these? This was built from an original long box Aurora, just before the reissue. Have to agree with you guys on those Revell kits with the working parts. The Anglia and Orange Crate were hard for me as well, some of the early IMC's for the same reason.

As for building ,I agree on the old Revell kits , As a 11 year old kid I know I made a horrible mess of a Moon Mixer , and later on the Chopped Duece and the 56 Chevy did me in. Looking at your post ,were you asking about the worst kit to build, or the worst one you had that you restored. The worst kits I restored was a Dragon Wagon and a Tijuana Taxi ; it took me forever to rebuild. A close second would have been the Bug Bomb and Glitterbug .All four were broken up gluebombs.

[/quote] LOL! Ya know? I totally mis-read that... the title should have been what's the worst kit you've ever REBUILT... For me, I have hacked several grails that were glue bombs... The TJ Taxi was a complete Testors spill when I got it, and it took two and a half Rommel's Rods to make the custom one I did. Somebody had taken a lighter to the fenders to simulate damage and drilled a hole in the rear. It was a mess... I thnk I paid $60 for the bare TJ taxi hull... and the frame was snapped off at the firewall and missing, the glass was boogered up... it had glue finger prints all over it... now you can buy a new one for $20...

IMC's Cougar II comes to mind. I remember struggling with that one. That kit is pretty nifty, though, with lots of working features--the steering wheel can turn the front wheels! .....But, unfortunately, due to some kind of little teensy error, when the wheel is turned to the right, the wheels steer to the left. ;D

A little old MG TC kit that I got in a Zip lock bag at a dollar store. The instructions were vague to say the least, but those little tiny parts, must have been 150 total, made my eyeballs bleed. Super delicate and upon completion it sat in my office for years only being modified by the cleaning lady every so often when she dusted it right off the shelf. Gerry G
