Last Sunday we ran our Scout troops Pinewood derby . My son as usual wanted build a race car, so we cut it out and he sanded that thing for days. He came up with the paint scheme and did the decals from my parts box. He ended up winning his den and finished fourth overall. He also won the Scouts choice award. He had a great day ! photobucket.com/albums/u131/74GREMLIN/02a96311-3863-4a47-80e9-151672f07224_zps3f5a23ef.jpg[/IMG] This car I built for the adult division as my wife wanted a car.Just a crazy shape I cut out and added some chrome bits from the parts box. I really wanted to compete with a guy who built a car the year before from a "how to win derbies" book, he showed up with his axle jigs and adjustable weights. Mine was guess work, with car stick on wheel weights.Long story short, he just beat us the first race, then this one tromped him the next three, winning the adult race. He got so mad he left and left the car there. fa6-485a-a3a9-4179e53f299f_zpsd57d0a83.jpg[/IMG]

Pinewood is so much fun! ! ! ! The finish on your sons car is perfect . . . . I like the wild shape of yours! THOSE ARE SOME Great cars and an even better story! ! ! I didn't carve one this year. . . but I have to relive the past two. . . .It is fun working with these. . and I have to try to build a showrod! hehehehe But yo can see I focus on the body. . . not the wheels. . . ouch.

Thanks for the compliments ! Dan - the wheels ended up being the easy part. I just traced out a nickel ,cut it out and used it as a spray mask. We got a lot of compliments on that as no one else did it. I had to tell them honestly, it was my sons idea !
