Yeah , I've seen a couple of them close up . It's not very good , except maybe the pan and engine could be used for a dune buggy . Even the wheels are screwed up with the spokes different sizes and not evenly spaced !

Oh man!! I had one of these when they were new. Don't remember what happened to it, what I do remember is that my late older brother swiped the grill to build a 1/25 Black Beauty (Green Hornet) I think he must have sold that model 'cause it didn't stay around too long!

Way back when there were several VW Bug based kit cars. I think the model was supposed to represent one of them. Here is a similar car from last years Kruizinationals: Marty Marysville, OH

Let me fill you in a bit on this one Al. I believe this was retooled from Monogram's earlier kit "Goin' Buggy" which included one chassis and two bodies. The first body was the Shala Vette designed by Dick Dean that was also a real buggy. The second body was a semi 70's styled late model Beetle. This image was pulled from a web picture. Just a side note to the Goin' Buggy kit...You could get the bodies in two different color combinations. One would be yellow and the other lime green and then you could also get them flipped. Neither seems to be any rarer than the other. I honestly don't know much about the Elegant Beetle other than what I have mentioned. I've never owned one although I've passed up several over the years. I believe it was reissued at one time as well by Revell of Germany which also did some of Tom Daniel's cycles.

Well, I did not know until now, that there is this in 1/16... Ugly or not, all a matter of taste, and I tell you, it is not my... ... but it pleased many people, there were many of these conversions out there... "The Rolls-Beetle", a 1966 Beetle. Rolls Royce Body Conversion. The 70's brought along some very wild stuff as well as many different fiberglass automotive products for all makes and models. The Beetle perhaps got the lion's share of this it seems. This "Rolls Royce" inspired conversion was perhaps one of the wildest kits out there. Ive seen a couple different versions, perhaps from different manufacturers but this is the most extensive with full fender, hood and decklid replacement. And after the repainting: "The Raspberries," a hot recording group on Capitol Records, had George Barris create their wild "bug"... An A&E Rolls Royce kit was used for grille, front fenders, rear fenders, and all lights. The interior is covered with berry-red acrilan fur and has a quadrasonic music system. ... which is available as a Revell model, well, not exactly as the original... The manufacturer of this was DOMUS , located in Kansas City , Mo . The pickup bed and bumper are part of a kit from about the late 70′s. I think it uses Chevy taillights and the fiberglass Roll-Royce style hood was fiberglass aftermarket part too. You could also get one that looked like a 40 Ford grille.... Called the Flatback... This was available in the JC Whitney catalog, next to the Dune Buggy kit. ... and another one...
